Jeremiah 48:26–27 — New International Version (2011) (NIV)
26 “Make her drunk,
for she has defied the Lord.
Let Moab wallow in her vomit;
let her be an object of ridicule.
27 Was not Israel the object of your ridicule?
Was she caught among thieves,
that you shake your head in scorn
whenever you speak of her?
Jeremiah 48:26–27 — King James Version (KJV 1900)
26 Make ye him drunken: for he magnified himself against the Lord:
Moab also shall wallow in his vomit,
And he also shall be in derision.
27 For was not Israel a derision unto thee?
Was he found among thieves?
For since thou spakest of him, thou skippedst for joy.
Jeremiah 48:26–27 — New Living Translation (NLT)
26 “Let him stagger and fall like a drunkard,
for he has rebelled against the Lord.
Moab will wallow in his own vomit,
ridiculed by all.
27 Did you not ridicule the people of Israel?
Were they caught in the company of thieves
that you should despise them as you do?
Jeremiah 48:26–27 — The New King James Version (NKJV)
26 “Make him drunk,
Because he exalted himself against the Lord.
Moab shall wallow in his vomit,
And he shall also be in derision.
27 For was not Israel a derision to you?
Was he found among thieves?
For whenever you speak of him,
You shake your head in scorn.
Jeremiah 48:26–27 — New Century Version (NCV)
26 “The people of Moab thought they were greater than the Lord,
so punish them until they act as if they are drunk.
Moab will fall and roll around in its own vomit,
and people will even make fun of it.
27 Moab, you made fun of Israel.
Israel was caught in the middle of a gang of thieves.
When you spoke about Israel,
you shook your head and acted as if you were better than it.
Jeremiah 48:26–27 — American Standard Version (ASV)
26 Make ye him drunken; for he magnified himself against Jehovah: and Moab shall wallow in his vomit, and he also shall be in derision. 27 For was not Israel a derision unto thee? was he found among thieves? for as often as thou speakest of him, thou waggest the head.
Jeremiah 48:26–27 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)
26 Make him drunken, for he magnified himself against Jehovah; and Moab shall wallow in his vomit, and he also shall be in derision. 27 For was not Israel a derision unto thee? Was he found among thieves, that as oft as thou didst speak of him, thou didst shake the head?
Jeremiah 48:26–27 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)
26 “Get the people of Moab drunk; they have spoken against the Lord.
They will wallow in their own vomit, and people will laugh at them.
27 People of Moab, didn’t you laugh at the people of Israel?
Were they caught among thieves?
Whenever you talk about them you shake your heads in contempt.
Jeremiah 48:26–27 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)
26 “Make him drunk, because he has exalted himself against the Lord. Moab will wallow in his own vomit, and he will also become a laughingstock. 27 Wasn’t Israel a laughingstock to you? Was he ever found among thieves? For whenever you speak of him you shake your head.”
Jeremiah 48:26–27 — New Revised Standard Version: Updated Edition (NRSVue)
26 Make him drunk because he magnified himself against the Lord; let Moab wallow in his vomit; he, too, shall become a laughingstock. 27 Israel was a laughingstock for you, though he was not caught among thieves, but whenever you spoke of him you shook your head!
Jeremiah 48:26–27 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)
26 “Make him drunk,
because he magnified himself against Yahweh,
and let Moab wallow in his vomit.
And he also will become a laughingstock.
27 Now was not Israel the laughingstock to you?
Or was he found among thieves?
For as often as you spoke over him
you shook your head.
Jeremiah 48:26–27 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)
26 “Moab’s people think they are better than I am.
So let their enemies make them drunk.
Let the people get sick and throw up.
Let them roll around in the mess they have made.
Let people laugh at them.
27 Moab, you laughed at Israel, didn’t you?
Were Israel’s people caught among robbers?
Is that why you shake your head at them?
Is that why you make fun of them
every time you talk about them?
Jeremiah 48:26–27 — New American Standard Bible (1995) (NASB95)
26 “Make him drunk, for he has become arrogant toward the Lord; so Moab will wallow in his vomit, and he also will become a laughingstock.
27 “Now was not Israel a laughingstock to you? Or was he caught among thieves? For each time you speak about him you shake your head in scorn.
