Jeremiah 21:13–14

13 I am against you, Jerusalem,

you who live above this valley

on the rocky plateau, declares the Lord—

you who say, “Who can come against us?

Who can enter our refuge?”

14 I will punish you as your deeds deserve,

declares the Lord.

I will kindle a fire in your forests

that will consume everything around you.’ ”

13 Behold, I am against thee, O inhabitant of the valley, and rock of the plain, saith the Lord; which say, Who shall come down against us? or who shall enter into our habitations? 14 But I will punish you according to the fruit of your doings, saith the Lord: and I will kindle a fire in the forest thereof, and it shall devour all things round about it.

13 I will personally fight against the people in Jerusalem,

that mighty fortress—

the people who boast, “No one can touch us here.

No one can break in here.”

14 And I myself will punish you for your sinfulness,

says the Lord.

I will light a fire in your forests

that will burn up everything around you.’ ”

13 “Behold, I am against you, O inhabitant of the valley,

And rock of the plain,” says the Lord,

“Who say, ‘Who shall come down against us?

Or who shall enter our dwellings?’

14 But I will punish you according to the fruit of your doings,” says the Lord;

“I will kindle a fire in its forest,

And it shall devour all things around it.” ’ ”

13 “ ‘Jerusalem, I am against you,

you who live on top of the mountain

over this valley, says the Lord.

You say, “No one can attack us

or come into our strong city.”

14 But I will give you the punishment you deserve, says the Lord.

I will start a fire in your forests

that will burn up everything around you!’ ”

13 Behold, I am against thee, O inhabitant of the valley, and of the rock of the plain, saith Jehovah; you that say, Who shall come down against us? or who shall enter into our habitations? 14 And I will punish you according to the fruit of your doings, saith Jehovah; and I will kindle a fire in her forest, and it shall devour all that is round about her.

13 Behold, I am against thee, inhabitress of the valley, the rock of the plain, saith Jehovah; ye that say, Who shall come down against us, or who shall enter into our dwellings? 14 And I will visit you according to the fruit of your doings, saith Jehovah; and I will kindle a fire in her forest, and it shall devour all that is round about her.

13 “ ‘I’m against you, Jerusalem. 

You are the city that is in the valley 

and on the rock in the plain,’ ” 

declares the Lord. 

“ ‘But you ask, “Who can attack us? 

Who can enter our places of refuge?” 

14 “ ‘I will punish you because of the evil things you have done,’ ” 

declares the Lord. 

“ ‘I will start a fire in your forests, 

and it will burn up everything around you.’ ” 

13 Beware! I am against you,

you who sit above the valley,

you atop the rocky plateau—

this is the Lord’s declaration—

you who say, “Who can come down against us?

Who can enter our hiding places?”

14 I will punish you according to what you have done —

this is the Lord’s declaration.

I will kindle a fire in its forest

that will consume everything around it.’ ”

13 See, I am against you, O inhabitant of the valley,

O rock of the plain,

says the Lord;

you who say, “Who can come down against us,

or who can enter our places of refuge?”

14 I will punish you according to the fruit of your doings,

says the Lord;

I will kindle a fire in its forest,

and it shall devour all that is around it.

13 Look, I am against you,

O inhabitants of the valley,

O rock of the plain,” declares Yahweh;

“you who say, ‘Who can descend against us,

or who can enter into our hiding place?’

14 And I will punish you

according to the fruit of your deeds,” declares Yahweh,

“And I will kindle a fire in its forest,

and it will devour all its surroundings.” ’ ”

13 Jerusalem, I am against you,”

announces the Lord.

“You live above this valley.

You are on a high, rocky flatland.

And you say, ‘Who can come against us?

Who can enter our place of safety?’

14 But I will punish you in keeping with what you have done,”

announces the Lord.

“I will start a fire in your forests.

It will burn up everything around you.” ’ ”

13 “Behold, I am against you, O valley dweller,

O rocky plain,” declares the Lord,

“You men who say, ‘Who will come down against us?

Or who will enter into our habitations?’

14 “But I will punish you according to the results of your deeds,” declares the Lord,

“And I will kindle a fire in its forest

That it may devour all its environs.” ’ ”
