Jeremiah 50:44–46 — The New International Version (NIV)

44 Like a lion coming up from Jordan’s thickets

to a rich pastureland,

I will chase Babylon from its land in an instant.

Who is the chosen one I will appoint for this?

Who is like me and who can challenge me?

And what shepherd can stand against me?”

45 Therefore, hear what the Lord has planned against Babylon,

what he has purposed against the land of the Babylonians:

The young of the flock will be dragged away;

their pasture will be appalled at their fate.

46 At the sound of Babylon’s capture the earth will tremble;

its cry will resound among the nations.

Jeremiah 50:44–46 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

44 Behold, he shall come up like a lion from the swelling of Jordan

Unto the habitation of the strong:

But I will make them suddenly run away from her:

And who is a chosen man, that I may appoint over her?

For who is like me? and who will appoint me the time?

And who is that shepherd that will stand before me?

45 Therefore hear ye the counsel of the Lord,

That he hath taken against Babylon;

And his purposes, that he hath purposed against the land of the Chaldeans:

Surely the least of the flock shall draw them out:

Surely he shall make their habitation desolate with them.

46 At the noise of the taking of Babylon the earth is moved,

And the cry is heard among the nations.

Jeremiah 50:44–46 — New Living Translation (NLT)

44 “I will come like a lion from the thickets of the Jordan,

leaping on the sheep in the pasture.

I will chase Babylon from its land,

and I will appoint the leader of my choice.

For who is like me, and who can challenge me?

What ruler can oppose my will?”

45 Listen to the Lord’s plans against Babylon

and the land of the Babylonians.

Even the little children will be dragged off like sheep,

and their homes will be destroyed.

46 The earth will shake with the shout, “Babylon has been taken!”

and its cry of despair will be heard around the world.

Jeremiah 50:44–46 — The New King James Version (NKJV)

44 “Behold, he shall come up like a lion from the floodplain of the Jordan

Against the dwelling place of the strong;

But I will make them suddenly run away from her.

And who is a chosen man that I may appoint over her?

For who is like Me?

Who will arraign Me?

And who is that shepherd

Who will withstand Me?”

45 Therefore hear the counsel of the Lord that He has taken against Babylon,

And His purposes that He has proposed against the land of the Chaldeans:

Surely the least of the flock shall draw them out;

Surely He will make their dwelling place desolate with them.

46 At the noise of the taking of Babylon

The earth trembles,

And the cry is heard among the nations.

Jeremiah 50:44–46 — New Century Version (NCV)

44 “Like a lion coming up from the thick bushes near the Jordan River

to attack a strong pen for sheep,

I will suddenly chase the people of Babylon from their land.

Who is the one I have chosen to do this?

There is no one like me,

no one who can take me to court.

None of their leaders can stand up against me.”

45 So listen to what the Lord has planned to do against Babylon.

Listen to what he has decided to do to the people in the city of Babylon.

He will surely drag away the young ones of Babylon.

Their hometowns will surely be shocked at what happens to them.

46 At the sound of Babylon’s capture, the earth will shake.

People in all nations will hear Babylon’s cry of distress.

Jeremiah 50:44–46 — American Standard Version (ASV)

44 Behold, the enemy shall come up like a lion from the pride of the Jordan against the strong habitation: for I will suddenly make them run away from it; and whoso is chosen, him will I appoint over it: for who is like me? and who will appoint me a time? and who is the shepherd that can stand before me? 45 Therefore hear ye the counsel of Jehovah, that he hath taken against Babylon; and his purposes, that he hath purposed against the land of the Chaldeans: Surely they shall drag them away, even the little ones of the flock; surely he shall make their habitation desolate over them. 46 At the noise of the taking of Babylon the earth trembleth, and the cry is heard among the nations.

Jeremiah 50:44–46 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

44 Behold, he shall come up like a lion from the swelling of the Jordan against the strong habitation; for I will make him suddenly run away from it; and who is a chosen man whom I may appoint over her? For who is like me? and who will assign me a time? and who is that shepherd that will stand before me? 45 Therefore hear the counsel of Jehovah, which he hath taken against Babylon, and his purposes which he hath purposed against the land of the Chaldeans: The little ones of the flock shall certainly draw them away; he shall certainly make their habitation desolate for them. 46 At the sound of the taking of Babylon the earth hath quaked, and the cry is heard among the nations.

Jeremiah 50:44–46 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

44 I will suddenly chase them from their places

like a lion coming out of the jungle

along the Jordan River into pastureland.

I will appoint over Babylon whomever I choose.

Who is like me? Who can challenge me?

Is there any leader who can stand up to me?

45 Listen to the plans that the Lord is making against Babylon

and the things he intends to do to the land of the Babylonians.

He will surely drag away the little ones of the flock.

He will surely destroy the pasture because of the Babylonians.

46 The earth will quake at the news that Babylon has been captured.

Its cry will be heard among the nations.”

Jeremiah 50:44–46 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

44 “Look, it will be like a lion coming from the thickets of the Jordan to the watered grazing land. Indeed, I will chase Babylon away from her land in a flash. I will appoint whoever is chosen for her. For who is like Me? Who will summon Me? Who is the shepherd who can stand against Me?”

45 Therefore, hear the plans that the Lord has drawn up against Babylon and the strategies He has devised against the land of the Chaldeans: Certainly the flock’s little lambs will be dragged away; certainly the grazing land will be made desolate because of them. 46 At the sound of Babylon’s conquest the earth will quake; a cry will be heard among the nations.

Jeremiah 50:44–46 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

44 Like a lion coming up from the thickets of the Jordan against a perennial pasture, I will suddenly chase them away from her; and I will appoint over her whomever I choose. For who is like me? Who can summon me? Who is the shepherd who can stand before me? 45 Therefore hear the plan that the Lord has made against Babylon, and the purposes that he has formed against the land of the Chaldeans: Surely the little ones of the flock shall be dragged away; surely their fold shall be appalled at their fate. 46 At the sound of the capture of Babylon the earth shall tremble, and her cry shall be heard among the nations.

Jeremiah 50:44–46 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)

44 Look, like a lion he comes up from the thickets of the Jordan

against a pastureland by a constantly flowing stream,

so I will chase them away quickly from her,

and I will appoint whoever is chosen over her.

For who is like me, and who can summon me,

and who is this shepherd who can stand before me?

45 Therefore hear the plan of Yahweh

that he has planned against Babylon,

and his plans

that he has planned against the land of the Chaldeans.

Surely they will drag them away,

the little ones of the flock.

Surely he will cause their grazing place

to be desolate over them.

46 At the sound, ‘Babylon has been captured,’

the earth will quake,

and a cry for help among the nations

will be heard.”

Jeremiah 50:44–46 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)

44 I will be like a lion coming up from the bushes by the Jordan River.

I will hunt in rich grasslands.

I will chase the people of Babylon from their land in an instant.

What nation will I choose to do it?

Which one will I appoint?

Is anyone like me? Who would dare to argue with me?

What leader can stand against me?”

45 So listen to what the Lord has planned against Babylon.

Hear what he has planned against the land of the Babylonians.

Their young people will be dragged away.

The Lord will completely destroy their grasslands because of them.

46 When the earth hears that Babylonia has been captured,

it will shake.

The people’s cries will be heard among the nations.

Jeremiah 50:44–46 — New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update (NASB95)

44 Behold, one will come up like a lion from the thicket of the Jordan to a perennially watered pasture; for in an instant I will make them run away from it, and whoever is chosen I will appoint over it. For who is like Me, and who will summon Me into court? And who then is the shepherd who can stand before Me?”

45 Therefore hear the plan of the Lord which He has planned against Babylon, and His purposes which He has purposed against the land of the Chaldeans: surely they will drag them off, even the little ones of the flock; surely He will make their pasture desolate because of them.

46 At the shout, “Babylon has been seized!” the earth is shaken, and an outcry is heard among the nations.
