Jeremiah 50:20–23

20 In those days, at that time,”

declares the Lord,

“search will be made for Israel’s guilt,

but there will be none,

and for the sins of Judah,

but none will be found,

for I will forgive the remnant I spare.

21 “Attack the land of Merathaim

and those who live in Pekod.

Pursue, kill and completely destroy them,”

declares the Lord.

“Do everything I have commanded you.

22 The noise of battle is in the land,

the noise of great destruction!

23 How broken and shattered

is the hammer of the whole earth!

How desolate is Babylon

among the nations!

20 In those days, and in that time, saith the Lord,

The iniquity of Israel shall be sought for, and there shall be none;

And the sins of Judah, and they shall not be found:

For I will pardon them whom I reserve.

21 Go up against the land of Merathaim, even against it,

And against the inhabitants of Pekod:

Waste and utterly destroy after them, saith the Lord,

And do according to all that I have commanded thee.

22 A sound of battle is in the land,

And of great destruction.

23 How is the hammer of the whole earth cut asunder and broken!

How is Babylon become a desolation among the nations!

20 In those days,” says the Lord,

“no sin will be found in Israel or in Judah,

for I will forgive the remnant I preserve.

21 “Go up, my warriors, against the land of Merathaim

and against the people of Pekod.

Pursue, kill, and completely destroy them,

as I have commanded you,” says the Lord.

22 “Let the battle cry be heard in the land,

a shout of great destruction.

23 Babylon, the mightiest hammer in all the earth,

lies broken and shattered.

Babylon is desolate among the nations!

20 In those days and in that time,” says the Lord,

“The iniquity of Israel shall be sought, but there shall be none;

And the sins of Judah, but they shall not be found;

For I will pardon those whom I preserve.

21 “Go up against the land of Merathaim, against it,

And against the inhabitants of Pekod.

Waste and utterly destroy them,” says the Lord,

“And do according to all that I have commanded you.

22 A sound of battle is in the land,

And of great destruction.

23 How the hammer of the whole earth has been cut apart and broken!

How Babylon has become a desolation among the nations!

I have laid a snare for you;

20 The Lord says,

“At that time people will try to find Israel’s guilt,

but there will be no guilt.

People will try to find Judah’s sins,

but no sins will be found,

because I will leave a few people alive from Israel and Judah,

and I will forgive their sins.

21 “Attack the land of Merathaim.

Attack the people who live in Pekod.

Chase them, kill them, and completely destroy them.

Do everything I commanded you!” says the Lord.

22 “The noise of battle can be heard all over the country;

it is the noise of much destruction.

23 Babylon was the hammer of the whole earth,

but how broken and shattered that hammer is now.

It is truly the most ruined

of all the nations.

21 Go up against the land of double rebellion, against it, and against the inhabitants of visitation; waste and utterly destroy after them, saith Jehovah, and do according to all that I have commanded thee. 22 A sound of battle is in the land, and great destruction. 23 How is the hammer of the whole earth cut asunder and broken! How is Babylon become an astonishment among the nations!

20 In those days and at that time,” declares the Lord, 

“people will look for Israel’s crimes, but they will find none. 

They will look for Judah’s sins, but none will be found. 

I will forgive the faithful few whom I have spared. 

21 Attack the land of Merathaim 

and the people who live in Pekod. 

Claim them for me by killing them with a sword,” 

declares the Lord. 

“Do everything I commanded you. 

22 The noise of battle and great destruction fills the land. 

23 The hammer of the whole earth is broken and shattered. 

See how desolate Babylon is of all the nations! 

20 In those days and at that time—

this is the Lord’s declaration—

one will search for Israel’s guilt,

but there will be none,

and for Judah’s sins,

but they will not be found,

for I will forgive those I leave as a remnant.

21 “Go against the land of Merathaim,

and against those living in Pekod.

Put them to the sword;

completely destroy them—

this is the Lord’s declaration—

do everything I have commanded you.

22 The sound of war is in the land —

a great destruction.

23 How the hammer of the whole earth

is cut down and smashed!

What a horror Babylon has become

among the nations!

20 In those days and at that time, says the Lord, the iniquity of Israel shall be sought, and there shall be none, and the sins of Judah, and none shall be found, for I will pardon the remnant that I have spared.

21 Go up to the land of Merathaim;

go up against her,

and attack the inhabitants of Pekod

and utterly destroy the last of them,

says the Lord;

do all that I have commanded you.

22 The noise of battle is in the land

and great destruction!

is cut down and broken!

How Babylon has become

a horror among the nations!

20 In those days and at that time,” declares Yahweh,

“the guilt of Israel will be sought, but there is none,

and the sins of Judah, but they will not be found,

for I will forgive those I left behind.

21 To the land of Merathaim,

go up against her,

and against the inhabitants of Pekod,

massacre and destroy them,” declares Yahweh,

“and do according to all that I have commanded you.

22 The sound of battle is in the land,

and great destruction.

23 How the blacksmith’s hammer of all the earth is cut down and broken!

How Babylon has become as a horror among the nations!

20 A new day is coming,”

announces the Lord.

“At that time people will search for Israel’s guilt.

But they will not find any.

They will search for Judah’s sins.

But they will not find any.

That is because I will forgive the people I have spared.

21 “Enemies of Babylonia, attack their land of Merathaim.

Make war against those who live in Pekod.

Chase them and kill them. Destroy them completely,”

announces the Lord.

“Do everything I have commanded you to do.

22 The noise of battle is heard in the land.

It is the noise of a great city being destroyed!

23 It has been broken to pieces.

It was the hammer that broke the whole earth.

How empty Babylonia is among the nations!
