Isaiah 57:9–10

9 You went to Molek with olive oil

and increased your perfumes.

You sent your ambassadors far away;

you descended to the very realm of the dead!

10 You wearied yourself by such going about,

but you would not say, ‘It is hopeless.’

You found renewal of your strength,

and so you did not faint.

9 And thou wentest to the king with ointment,

And didst increase thy perfumes,

And didst send thy messengers far off,

And didst debase thyself even unto hell.

10 Thou art wearied in the greatness of thy way;

Yet saidst thou not, There is no hope:

Thou hast found the life of thine hand;

Therefore thou wast not grieved.

9 You have gone to Molech

with olive oil and many perfumes,

sending your agents far and wide,

even to the world of the dead,

10 You grew weary in your search,

but you never gave up.

Desire gave you renewed strength,

and you did not grow weary.

9 You went to the king with ointment,

And increased your perfumes;

You sent your messengers far off,

And even descended to Sheol.

10 You are wearied in the length of your way;

Yet you did not say, ‘There is no hope.’

You have found the life of your hand;

Therefore you were not grieved.

9 You use your oils and perfumes

to look nice for Molech.

You have sent your messengers to faraway lands;

you even tried to send them to the place of the dead.

10 You were tired from doing these things,

but you never gave up.

You found new strength,

so you did not quit.

9 And thou wentest to the king with oil, and didst increase thy perfumes, and didst send thine ambassadors far off, and didst debase thyself even unto Sheol. 10 Thou wast wearied with the length of thy way; yet saidst thou not, It is in vain: thou didst find a quickening of thy strength; therefore thou wast not faint.

9 And thou wentest to the king with ointment, and didst multiply thy perfumes, and didst send thy messengers afar off, and didst debase thyself unto Sheol. 10 Thou wast wearied by the multitude of thy ways; but thou saidst not, It is of no avail. Thou didst find a quickening of thy strength; therefore thou wast not sick of it.

9 You’ve journeyed to the king with perfumed oils 

and put on plenty of perfume. 

You’ve sent your ambassadors far away 

and sent them down to Sheol. 

10 You’ve tired yourself out with many journeys. 

You didn’t think that it was hopeless. 

You’ve found renewed strength, 

so you didn’t faint. 

9 You went to the king with oil

and multiplied your perfumes;

you sent your couriers far away

and sent them down even to Sheol.

10 You became weary on your many journeys,

but you did not say, “I give up!”

You found a renewal of your strength;

therefore you did not grow weak.

9 You journeyed to Molech with oil

and multiplied your perfumes;

you sent your envoys far away

and sent them down to Sheol.

10 You grew weary from your many wanderings,

but you did not say, “It is no use!”

You found your desire rekindled,

and so you did not weaken.

9 And you climbed down to the king with oil,

and you made your perfumes numerous,

and you sent your envoys far away,

and you sent down deep to Sheol.

10 You grow weary by the greatness of your way,

but you did not say, ‘Despairing!’

You found the renewal of your strength,

therefore you do not grow weak.

9 You went to the god Molech with olive oil.

You took a lot of perfume along with you.

You sent your messengers to places far away.

You even sent them down to the place of the dead.

10 All of your efforts wore you out.

But you would not say, ‘It’s hopeless.’

You received new strength.

So you did not give up.

9 “You have journeyed to the king with oil

And increased your perfumes;

You have sent your envoys a great distance

And made them go down to Sheol.

10 “You were tired out by the length of your road,

Yet you did not say, ‘It is hopeless.’

You found renewed strength,

Therefore you did not faint.
