2 Yet I will besiege Ariel;

she will mourn and lament,

she will be to me like an altar hearth.

3 I will encamp against you on all sides;

I will encircle you with towers

and set up my siege works against you.

4 Brought low, you will speak from the ground;

your speech will mumble out of the dust.

Your voice will come ghostlike from the earth;

out of the dust your speech will whisper.

2 Yet I will distress Ariel, And there shall be heaviness and sorrow: And it shall be unto me as Ariel. 3 And I will camp against thee round about, And will lay siege against thee with a mount, And I will raise forts against thee. 4 And thou shalt be brought down, and shalt speak out of the ground, And thy speech shall be low out of the dust, And thy voice shall be, as of one that hath a familiar spirit, out of the ground, And thy speech shall whisper out of the dust.

2 Yet I will bring disaster upon you,

and there will be much weeping and sorrow.

For Jerusalem will become what her name Ariel means—

an altar covered with blood.

3 I will be your enemy,

surrounding Jerusalem and attacking its walls.

I will build siege towers

and destroy it.

4 Then deep from the earth you will speak;

from low in the dust your words will come.

Your voice will whisper from the ground

like a ghost conjured up from the grave.

2 Yet I will distress Ariel;

There shall be heaviness and sorrow,

And it shall be to Me as Ariel.

3 I will encamp against you all around,

I will lay siege against you with a mound,

And I will raise siegeworks against you.

4 You shall be brought down,

You shall speak out of the ground;

Your speech shall be low, out of the dust;

Your voice shall be like a medium’s, out of the ground;

And your speech shall whisper out of the dust.

2 I will attack Jerusalem,

and that city will be filled with sadness and crying.

It will be like an altar to me.

3 I will put armies all around you, Jerusalem;

I will surround you with towers

and with devices to attack you.

4 You will be pulled down and will speak from the ground;

I will hear your voice rising from the ground.

It will sound like the voice of a ghost;

your words will come like a whisper from the dirt.

2 then will I distress Ariel, and there shall be mourning and lamentation; and she shall be unto me as Ariel. 3 And I will encamp against thee round about, and will lay siege against thee with posted troops, and I will raise siege works against thee. 4 And thou shalt be brought down, and shalt speak out of the ground, and thy speech shall be low out of the dust; and thy voice shall be as of one that hath a familiar spirit, out of the ground, and thy speech shall whisper out of the dust.

2 But I will distress Ariel, and there shall be sorrow and sadness; and it shall be unto me as an Ariel. 3 And I will camp against thee round about, and will lay siege against thee with watch-posts, and I will raise forts against thee. 4 And thou shalt be brought low, thou shalt speak out of the ground, and thy speech shall come low out of the dust, and thy voice shall be as of one that hath a familiar spirit, out of the ground, and thy speech shall whisper out of the dust.

2 I will torment Ariel, 

and the city will be filled with people grieving and mourning. 

The city will become like Ariel. 

3 I will set up war camps all around you. 

I will blockade you with towers. 

I will put up mounds of dirt around you. 

4 When you have fallen, you will speak as you lie on the ground. 

Your words will be muffled by the dust. 

Your voice will come out of the ground like that of a ghost. 

Your words will be whispered from the dust. 

2 I will oppress Ariel,

and there will be mourning and crying,

and she will be to Me like an Ariel.

3 I will camp in a circle around you;

I will besiege you with earth ramps,

and I will set up my siege towers against you.

4 You will be brought down;

you will speak from the ground,

and your words will come from low in the dust.

Your voice will be like that of a spirit from the ground;

your speech will whisper from the dust.

2 Yet I will distress Ariel,

and there shall be moaning and lamentation,

and Jerusalem shall be to me like an Ariel.

3 And like David I will encamp against you;

I will besiege you with towers

and raise siegeworks against you.

4 Then deep from the earth you shall speak,

from low in the dust your words shall come;

your voice shall come from the ground like the voice of a ghost,

and your speech shall whisper out of the dust.

2 Yet I will inflict Ariel,

and there shall be mourning and lamentation,

and it shall be to me like an altar hearth.

3 And I will encamp in a circle against you,

and I will lay siege to you with towers

and I will raise up siegeworks against you.

4 Then you shall be low;

you shall speak from the earth,

and your words will be low, from dust.

And your voice will be from the earth, like a ghost,

and your word will whisper from the dust.

2 The Lord says, “Ariel, I will surround you.

Jerusalem, I will get ready to attack you.

Your people will sob.

They will sing songs of sadness.

I will make you like the front of an altar

that is covered with blood.

3 I will be like an army that is camped against you on all sides.

I will surround you with towers in order to attack you.

I will build my ramps all around you and set up my ladders.

4 You will be brought down to the grave.

You will speak from deep down inside the ground.

Your words will be barely heard out of the dust.

Your voice will sound like the voice of a ghost

coming from under the ground.

Your words will sound like a whisper out of the dust.”

2 I will bring distress to Ariel,

And she will be a city of lamenting and mourning;

And she will be like an Ariel to me.

3 I will camp against you encircling you,

And I will set siegeworks against you,

And I will raise up battle towers against you.

4 Then you will be brought low;

From the earth you will speak,

And from the dust where you are prostrate

Your words will come.

Your voice will also be like that of a spirit from the ground,

And your speech will whisper from the dust.
