Isaiah 8:9–12 — The New International Version (NIV)
9 Raise the war cry, you nations, and be shattered!
Listen, all you distant lands.
Prepare for battle, and be shattered!
Prepare for battle, and be shattered!
10 Devise your strategy, but it will be thwarted;
propose your plan, but it will not stand,
for God is with us.
11 This is what the Lord says to me with his strong hand upon me, warning me not to follow the way of this people:
12 “Do not call conspiracy
everything this people calls a conspiracy;
do not fear what they fear,
and do not dread it.
Isaiah 8:9–12 — King James Version (KJV 1900)
9 Associate yourselves, O ye people, and ye shall be broken in pieces;
And give ear, all ye of far countries:
Gird yourselves, and ye shall be broken in pieces;
Gird yourselves, and ye shall be broken in pieces.
10 Take counsel together, and it shall come to nought;
Speak the word, and it shall not stand:
For God is with us.
11 For the Lord spake thus to me with a strong hand,
And instructed me that I should not walk in the way of this people, saying,
12 Say ye not, A confederacy,
To all them to whom this people shall say, A confederacy;
Neither fear ye their fear, nor be afraid.
Isaiah 8:9–12 — New Living Translation (NLT)
9 “Huddle together, you nations, and be terrified.
Listen, all you distant lands.
Prepare for battle, but you will be crushed!
Yes, prepare for battle, but you will be crushed!
10 Call your councils of war, but they will be worthless.
Develop your strategies, but they will not succeed.
For God is with us!”
11 The Lord has given me a strong warning not to think like everyone else does. He said,
12 “Don’t call everything a conspiracy, like they do,
and don’t live in dread of what frightens them.
Isaiah 8:9–12 — The New King James Version (NKJV)
9 “Be shattered, O you peoples, and be broken in pieces!
Give ear, all you from far countries.
Gird yourselves, but be broken in pieces;
Gird yourselves, but be broken in pieces.
10 Take counsel together, but it will come to nothing;
Speak the word, but it will not stand,
For God is with us.”
11 For the Lord spoke thus to me with a strong hand, and instructed me that I should not walk in the way of this people, saying:
12 “Do not say, ‘A conspiracy,’
Concerning all that this people call a conspiracy,
Nor be afraid of their threats, nor be troubled.
Isaiah 8:9–12 — New Century Version (NCV)
9 Be broken, all you nations,
and be smashed to pieces.
Listen, all you faraway countries.
Prepare for battle and be smashed to pieces!
Prepare for battle and be smashed to pieces!
10 Make your plans for the fight,
but they will be defeated.
Give orders to your armies,
but they will be useless,
because God is with us.
11 The Lord spoke to me with his great power and warned me not to follow the lead of the rest of the people. He said,
12 “People are saying that others make plans against them,
but you should not believe them.
Don’t be afraid of what they fear;
do not dread those things.
Isaiah 8:9–12 — American Standard Version (ASV)
9 Make an uproar, O ye peoples, and be broken in pieces; and give ear, all ye of far countries: gird yourselves, and be broken in pieces; gird yourselves, and be broken in pieces. 10 Take counsel together, and it shall be brought to nought; speak the word, and it shall not stand: for God is with us. 11 For Jehovah spake thus to me with a strong hand, and instructed me not to walk in the way of this people, saying, 12 Say ye not, A conspiracy, concerning all whereof this people shall say, A conspiracy; neither fear ye their fear, nor be in dread thereof.
Isaiah 8:9–12 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)
9 Rage, ye peoples, and be broken in pieces! And give ear, all ye distant parts of the earth: Gird yourselves, and be broken in pieces; gird yourselves, and be broken in pieces! 10 Settle a plan, and it shall come to nought; speak a word, and it shall not stand: for •God is with us. 11 For Jehovah spoke thus to me with a strong hand, and he instructed me not to walk in the way of this people, saying, 12 Ye shall not say, Conspiracy, of everything of which this people saith, Conspiracy; and fear ye not their fear, and be not in dread.
Isaiah 8:9–12 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)
9 Be broken, you people. Be terrified.
Listen, all you distant parts of the earth.
Prepare for battle, but be terrified.
Prepare for battle, but be terrified.
10 Make plans for battle, but they will never succeed.
Give orders, but they won’t be carried out,
because God is with us!
11 This is what the Lord said with his powerful hand on me.
He warned me not to follow the ways of these people:
12 “Don’t say that everything these people call a conspiracy
is a conspiracy.
Don’t fear what they fear.
Don’t let it terrify you.”
Isaiah 8:9–12 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)
9 Band together, peoples, and be broken;
pay attention, all you distant lands;
prepare for war, and be broken;
prepare for war, and be broken.
10 Devise a plan; it will fail.
Make a prediction; it will not happen.
For God is with us.
11 For this is what the Lord said to me with great power, to keep me from going the way of this people:
12 Do not call everything an alliance
these people say is an alliance.
Do not fear what they fear;
do not be terrified.
Isaiah 8:9–12 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)
9 Band together, you peoples, and be dismayed;
listen, all you far countries;
gird yourselves and be dismayed;
gird yourselves and be dismayed!
10 Take counsel together, but it shall be brought to naught;
speak a word, but it will not stand,
for God is with us.
11 For the Lord spoke thus to me while his hand was strong upon me, and warned me not to walk in the way of this people, saying: 12 Do not call conspiracy all that this people calls conspiracy, and do not fear what it fears, or be in dread.
Isaiah 8:9–12 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)
9 Be broken, you peoples, and be dismayed.
And listen, all distant parts of the earth;
gird yourselves and be dismayed;
gird yourselves and be dismayed!
10 Make a plan, but it will be frustrated!
Speak a word, but it will not stand,
for God is with us!
11 For Yahweh said this to me while his hand weighed heavily on me,
and he warned me not to walk in the way of this people, saying,
12 “You must not call conspiracy everything that this people calls conspiracy,
and you must not share its fear, and you must not be in dread.
Isaiah 8:9–12 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)
9 Sound the battle cry, you nations!
But you will be torn apart.
Listen, all of you lands far away!
Prepare for battle! But you will be torn apart.
Prepare for battle! But you will be torn apart.
10 Make your battle plans! But you won’t succeed.
Give your orders! But they won’t be carried out.
That’s because God is with us.
11 The Lord put his powerful hand on me and spoke to me. He warned me not to live the way these people live. He said,
12 “People of Judah, do not agree with those who say
Isaiah is guilty of treason.
Do not fear what they fear.
Do not be afraid.
Isaiah 8:9–12 — New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update (NASB95)
9 “Be broken, O peoples, and be shattered;
And give ear, all remote places of the earth.
Gird yourselves, yet be shattered;
Gird yourselves, yet be shattered.
10 “Devise a plan, but it will be thwarted;
State a proposal, but it will not stand,
For God is with us.”
11 For thus the Lord spoke to me with mighty power and instructed me not to walk in the way of this people, saying,
12 “You are not to say, ‘It is a conspiracy!’
In regard to all that this people call a conspiracy,
And you are not to fear what they fear or be in dread of it.
