Isaiah 7:5–10

5 Aram, Ephraim and Remaliah’s son have plotted your ruin, saying, 6 “Let us invade Judah; let us tear it apart and divide it among ourselves, and make the son of Tabeel king over it.” 7 Yet this is what the Sovereign Lord says:

“ ‘It will not take place,

it will not happen,

8 for the head of Aram is Damascus,

and the head of Damascus is only Rezin.

Within sixty-five years

Ephraim will be too shattered to be a people.

9 The head of Ephraim is Samaria,

and the head of Samaria is only Remaliah’s son.

If you do not stand firm in your faith,

you will not stand at all.’ ”

10 Again the Lord spoke to Ahaz,

5 Because Syria, Ephraim, and the son of Remaliah,

Have taken evil counsel against thee, saying,

6 Let us go up against Judah, and vex it,

And let us make a breach therein for us,

And set a king in the midst of it, even the son of Tabeal:

7 Thus saith the Lord God,

It shall not stand, neither shall it come to pass.

8 For the head of Syria is Damascus,

And the head of Damascus is Rezin;

And within threescore and five years shall Ephraim be broken, that it be not a people.

9 And the head of Ephraim is Samaria,

And the head of Samaria is Remaliah’s son.

If ye will not believe, surely ye shall not be established.

10 Moreover the Lord spake again unto Ahaz, saying,

5 Yes, the kings of Syria and Israel are plotting against him, saying, 6 ‘We will attack Judah and capture it for ourselves. Then we will install the son of Tabeel as Judah’s king.’ 7 But this is what the Sovereign Lord says:

“This invasion will never happen;

it will never take place;

8 for Syria is no stronger than its capital, Damascus,

and Damascus is no stronger than its king, Rezin.

As for Israel, within sixty-five years

it will be crushed and completely destroyed.

9 Israel is no stronger than its capital, Samaria,

and Samaria is no stronger than its king, Pekah son of Remaliah.

Unless your faith is firm,

I cannot make you stand firm.”

10 Later, the Lord sent this message to King Ahaz:

5 Because Syria, Ephraim, and the son of Remaliah have plotted evil against you, saying, 6 “Let us go up against Judah and trouble it, and let us make a gap in its wall for ourselves, and set a king over them, the son of Tabel”—7 thus says the Lord God:

“It shall not stand,

Nor shall it come to pass.

8 For the head of Syria is Damascus,

And the head of Damascus is Rezin.

Within sixty-five years Ephraim will be broken,

So that it will not be a people.

9 The head of Ephraim is Samaria,

And the head of Samaria is Remaliah’s son.

If you will not believe,

Surely you shall not be established.” ’ ”

10 Moreover the Lord spoke again to Ahaz, saying,

5 They have made plans against you, saying, 6 “Let’s fight against Judah and tear it apart. We will divide the land for ourselves and make the son of Tabeel the new king of Judah.” 7 But I, the Lord God, say,

“ ‘Their plan will not succeed;

it will not happen,

8 because Aram is led by the city of Damascus,

and Damascus is led by its weak king, Rezin.

Within sixty-five years Israel will no longer be a nation.

9 Israel is led by the city of Samaria,

and Samaria is led by its weak king, the son of Remaliah.

If your faith is not strong,

you will not have strength enough to last.’ ”

10 Then the Lord spoke to Ahaz again, saying,

5 Because Syria, Ephraim, and the son of Remaliah, have purposed evil against thee, saying, 6 Let us go up against Judah, and vex it, and let us make a breach therein for us, and set up a king in the midst of it, even the son of Tabeel; 7 thus saith the Lord Jehovah, It shall not stand, neither shall it come to pass. 8 For the head of Syria is Damascus, and the head of Damascus is Rezin; and within threescore and five years shall Ephraim be broken in pieces, so that it shall not be a people: 9 and the head of Ephraim is Samaria, and the head of Samaria is Remaliah’s son. If ye will not believe, surely ye shall not be established.

10 And Jehovah spake again unto Ahaz, saying,

5 Inasmuch as Syria hath taken evil counsel against thee, Ephraim also and the son of Remaliah, saying, 6 Let us go up against Judah, and harass it, and make a breach therein for us, and set up a king therein—the son of Tabeal; 7 thus saith the Lord Jehovah: It shall not stand, nor come to pass; 8 for the head of Syria is Damascus, and the head of Damascus is Rezin; and within sixty-five years shall Ephraim be broken, so as to be no more a people; 9 and the head of Ephraim is Samaria, and the head of Samaria is Remaliah’s son. If ye believe not, surely ye shall not be established.

10 And Jehovah spoke again to Ahaz, saying,

5 Aram, Ephraim, and Remaliah’s son have planned evil against you, saying, 6 ‘Let’s march against Judah, tear it apart, divide it among ourselves, and set up Tabeel’s son as its king.’ 7 This is what the Almighty Lord says: 

“It won’t take place; it won’t happen. 

8 The capital of Aram is Damascus, 

and the leader of Damascus is Rezin. 

Ephraim will be shattered within 65 years 

so that it will no longer be a nation. 

9 The capital of Ephraim is Samaria, 

and the leader of Samaria is Remaliah’s son. 

If you don’t remain faithful, 

you won’t remain standing.” 

10 Again the Lord spoke to Ahaz,

5 For Aram, along with Ephraim and the son of Remaliah, has plotted harm against you. They say, 6 ‘Let us go up against Judah, terrorize it, and conquer it for ourselves. Then we can install Tabeel’s son as king in it.’ ”

7 This is what the Lord God says:

It will not happen; it will not occur.

8 The head of Aram is Damascus,

the head of Damascus is Rezin

(within 65 years

Ephraim will be too shattered to be a people),

9 the head of Ephraim is Samaria,

and the head of Samaria is the son of Remaliah.

If you do not stand firm in your faith,

then you will not stand at all.

10 Then the Lord spoke again to Ahaz:

5 Because Aram—with Ephraim and the son of Remaliah—has plotted evil against you, saying, 6 ‘Let us go up against Judah and terrify it and conquer it for ourselves and make the son of Tabeel king in it’; 7 therefore thus says the Lord God:

It shall not stand,

and it shall not come to pass.

8 For the head of Aram is Damascus,

and the head of Damascus is Rezin.

(Within sixty-five years Ephraim will be shattered, no longer a people.)

9 The head of Ephraim is Samaria,

and the head of Samaria is the son of Remaliah.

If you do not stand firm in faith,

you shall not stand at all.”

10 Again the Lord spoke to Ahaz, saying,

5 Because Aram has plotted evil against you with Ephraim and the son of Remaliah, saying, 6 “Let us go up against Judah and let us tear her apart, and let us lay it open and so bring it unto ourselves, and let us install the son of Tabeel as king in her midst.” 7 Thus says the Lord Yahweh, “It shall not stand, and it shall not come to pass. 8 For the head of Aram is Damascus, and the head of Damascus is Rezin, and in sixty-five years from now Ephraim will be too shattered to be a people. 9 And the head of Ephraim is Samaria, and the head of Samaria is the son of Remaliah. If you do not believe then you will not endure.” ’ ”

10 And Yahweh continued to speak to Ahaz, saying,

5 Aram, Ephraim and Remaliah’s son have planned to destroy you. They said, 6 “Let’s march into Judah and attack it. Let’s tear everything down. Then we can share the land among ourselves. And we can make Tabeel’s son king over it.”

7 “ ‘But I am the Lord and King. I say,

“ ‘ “That will not happen.

It will not take place.

8 The capital of Aram is Damascus.

And the ruler of Damascus is only Rezin.

Do not worry about the people of Ephraim.

They will be too crushed to be considered a people.

That will happen before 65 years are over.

9 The capital of Ephraim is Samaria.

And the ruler of Samaria is only Remaliah’s son.

If you do not stand firm in your faith,

you will not stand at all.” ’ ”

10 The Lord spoke to Ahaz through me again. He said,

5 ‘Because Aram, with Ephraim and the son of Remaliah, has planned evil against you, saying,

6 “Let us go up against Judah and terrorize it, and make for ourselves a breach in its walls and set up the son of Tabeel as king in the midst of it,”

7 thus says the Lord God: “It shall not stand nor shall it come to pass.

8 “For the head of Aram is Damascus and the head of Damascus is Rezin (now within another 65 years Ephraim will be shattered, so that it is no longer a people),

9 and the head of Ephraim is Samaria and the head of Samaria is the son of Remaliah. If you will not believe, you surely shall not last.” ’ ”

10 Then the Lord spoke again to Ahaz, saying,
