Isaiah 33:15–18 — New International Version (2011) (NIV)
15 Those who walk righteously
and speak what is right,
who reject gain from extortion
and keep their hands from accepting bribes,
who stop their ears against plots of murder
and shut their eyes against contemplating evil—
16 they are the ones who will dwell on the heights,
whose refuge will be the mountain fortress.
Their bread will be supplied,
and water will not fail them.
17 Your eyes will see the king in his beauty
and view a land that stretches afar.
18 In your thoughts you will ponder the former terror:
“Where is that chief officer?
Where is the one who took the revenue?
Where is the officer in charge of the towers?”
Isaiah 33:15–18 — King James Version (KJV 1900)
15 He that walketh righteously, and speaketh uprightly;
He that despiseth the gain of oppressions,
That shaketh his hands from holding of bribes,
That stoppeth his ears from hearing of blood,
And shutteth his eyes from seeing evil;
16 He shall dwell on high:
His place of defence shall be the munitions of rocks:
Bread shall be given him; his waters shall be sure.
17 Thine eyes shall see the king in his beauty:
They shall behold the land that is very far off.
18 Thine heart shall meditate terror.
Where is the scribe? where is the receiver?
Where is he that counted the towers?
Isaiah 33:15–18 — New Living Translation (NLT)
15 Those who are honest and fair,
who refuse to profit by fraud,
who stay far away from bribes,
who refuse to listen to those who plot murder,
who shut their eyes to all enticement to do wrong—
16 these are the ones who will dwell on high.
The rocks of the mountains will be their fortress.
Food will be supplied to them,
and they will have water in abundance.
17 Your eyes will see the king in all his splendor,
and you will see a land that stretches into the distance.
18 You will think back to this time of terror, asking,
“Where are the Assyrian officers
who counted our towers?
Where are the bookkeepers
who recorded the plunder taken from our fallen city?”
Isaiah 33:15–18 — The New King James Version (NKJV)
15 He who walks righteously and speaks uprightly,
He who despises the gain of oppressions,
Who gestures with his hands, refusing bribes,
Who stops his ears from hearing of bloodshed,
And shuts his eyes from seeing evil:
16 He will dwell on high;
His place of defense will be the fortress of rocks;
Bread will be given him,
His water will be sure.
17 Your eyes will see the King in His beauty;
They will see the land that is very far off.
18 Your heart will meditate on terror:
“Where is the scribe?
Where is he who weighs?
Where is he who counts the towers?”
Isaiah 33:15–18 — New Century Version (NCV)
15 A person who does what is right
and speaks what is right,

who does not listen to plans of murder,
who refuses to think about evil—
16 this is the kind of person who will be safe.
He will be protected as he would be in a high, walled city.
He will always have bread,
and he will not run out of water.
17 Your eyes will see the king in his beauty.
You will see the land that stretches far away.

Where is the one who collected the taxes?
Where is the officer in charge of our defense towers?”
Isaiah 33:15–18 — American Standard Version (ASV)
15 He that walketh righteously, and speaketh uprightly; he that despiseth the gain of oppressions, that shaketh his hands from taking a bribe, that stoppeth his ears from hearing of blood, and shutteth his eyes from looking upon evil: 16 He shall dwell on high; his place of defence shall be the munitions of rocks; his bread shall be given him; his waters shall be sure.
17 Thine eyes shall see the king in his beauty: they shall behold a land that reacheth afar. 18 Thy heart shall muse on the terror: Where is he that counted, where is he that weighed the tribute? where is he that counted the towers?

15 —He that walketh righteously, and speaketh uprightly; he that despiseth the gain of oppressions, that shaketh his hands from taking hold of bribes, that stoppeth his ears from hearing of blood, and shutteth his eyes from seeing evil: 16 he shall dwell on high, the fortresses of the rocks shall be his high retreat; bread shall be given him, his water shall be sure. 17 Thine eyes shall see the King in his beauty; they shall behold the land that is far off. 18 Thy heart shall meditate on terror: Where is the scribe? where is the receiver? where is he that counted the towers?

He rejects getting rich by extortion and refuses to take bribes.
He refuses to listen to those who are plotting murders.
He doesn’t look for evil things to do.
16 This person will live on high.
His stronghold will be a fortress made of rock.
He will have plenty of food
and a dependable supply of water.
17 Your eyes will see how handsome the king is.
You will see a land that stretches into the distance.

Where are the scribes?
Where are the tax collectors?
Where are those who counted the towers?
Isaiah 33:15–18 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

and speaks rightly,
who refuses gain from extortion,
whose hand never takes a bribe,
who stops his ears from listening to murderous plots
and shuts his eyes to avoid endorsing evil —
16 he will dwell on the heights;
his refuge will be the rocky fortresses,
his food provided, his water assured.
17 Your eyes will see the King in His beauty;
you will see a vast land.
18 Your mind will meditate on the past terror:

Where is the tribute collector?
Where is the one who spied out our defenses?”

15 A person must do what is right.
He must be honest and tell the truth.

His hands must not receive money from those who want special favors.
He must not let his ears listen to plans to commit murder.
He must close his eyes to even thinking about doing what is evil.
16 A person like that will be kept safe.

And he will never run out of water.”
17 People of Judah, you will see the king in all of his glory and majesty.
You will view his kingdom spreading far and wide.
18 You will think about what used to terrify you.
You will say to yourself,
“Where is that chief officer of Assyria?
Where is the one who forced us to send gifts to his king?
Where is the officer in charge of the towers
that were used when we were attacked?”

His refuge will be the impregnable rock;
His bread will be given him,
His water will be sure.

They will behold a far-distant land.
