8 “Assyria will fall by no human sword;

a sword, not of mortals, will devour them.

They will flee before the sword

and their young men will be put to forced labor.

9 Their stronghold will fall because of terror;

at the sight of the battle standard their commanders will panic,”

declares the Lord,

whose fire is in Zion,

whose furnace is in Jerusalem.

8 Then shall the Assyrian fall with the sword, not of a mighty man;

And the sword, not of a mean man, shall devour him:

But he shall flee from the sword,

And his young men shall be discomfited.

9 And he shall pass over to his strong hold for fear,

And his princes shall be afraid of the ensign,

Saith the Lord, whose fire is in Zion,

And his furnace in Jerusalem.

8 “The Assyrians will be destroyed,

but not by the swords of men.

The sword of God will strike them,

and they will panic and flee.

The strong young Assyrians

will be taken away as captives.

9 Even the strongest will quake with terror,

and princes will flee when they see your battle flags,”

says the Lord, whose fire burns in Zion,

whose flame blazes from Jerusalem.

8 “Then Assyria shall fall by a sword not of man,

And a sword not of mankind shall devour him.

But he shall flee from the sword,

And his young men shall become forced labor.

9 He shall cross over to his stronghold for fear,

And his princes shall be afraid of the banner,”

Says the Lord,

Whose fire is in Zion

And whose furnace is in Jerusalem.

8 “Assyria will be defeated by a sword, but not the sword of a person;

Assyria will be destroyed, but not by a person’s sword.

Assyria will run away from the sword of God,

but its young men will be caught and made slaves.

9 They will panic, and their protection will be destroyed.

Their commanders will be terrified when they see God’s battle flag,”

says the Lord,

whose fire is in Jerusalem

and whose furnace is in Jerusalem.

8 And the Assyrian shall fall by the sword, not of man; and the sword, not of men, shall devour him; and he shall flee from the sword, and his young men shall become subject to taskwork. 9 And his rock shall pass away by reason of terror, and his princes shall be dismayed at the ensign, saith Jehovah, whose fire is in Zion, and his furnace in Jerusalem.

8 And Asshur shall fall by the sword, not of a great man; and the sword, not of a mean man, shall devour him: and he shall flee from the sword, and his young men shall become tributary; 9 and for fear, he shall pass over to his rock, and his princes shall be afraid of the banner, saith Jehovah, whose fire is in Zion, and his furnace in Jerusalem.

8 Then Assyrians will be killed with swords not made by human hands. 

Swords not made by human hands will destroy them. 

They will flee from battle, 

and their young men will be made to do forced labor. 

9 In terror they will run to their stronghold, 

and their officers will be frightened at ⸤the sight of⸥ the battle flag. 

The Lord declares this. His fire is in Zion and his furnace is in Jerusalem. 

8 Then Assyria will fall,

but not by human sword;

a sword will devour him,

but not one made by man.

He will flee from the sword;

his young men will be put to forced labor.

9 His rock will pass away because of fear,

and his officers will be afraid because of the signal flag.

This is the Lord’s declaration—whose fire is in Zion and whose furnace is in Jerusalem.

and his officers desert the standard in panic,”

says the Lord, whose fire is in Zion,

and whose furnace is in Jerusalem.

8 And Assyria shall fall by a sword not of a man,

and a sword not of a human shall devour him;

and he shall flee from the sword,

and his young men shall be put to forced labor.

9 And his rock will pass over because of terror,

and his officers will be terrified because of the flag,”

declares Yahweh,

who has a fire in Zion

and has a furnace in Jerusalem.

8 The Lord says, “The Assyrians will be killed with swords.

But it will not be men who use them.

The swords that kill them will not be used by human beings.

The Assyrians will run away from those swords.

But their young men will be caught

and forced to work hard.

9 Their hiding places will be destroyed

when terror strikes them.

When their commanders see their enemy’s battle flags,

they will be filled with panic,”

announces the Lord.

His fire blazes out from Mount Zion.

His furnace burns in Jerusalem.

8 And the Assyrian will fall by a sword not of man,

And a sword not of man will devour him.

So he will not escape the sword,

And his young men will become forced laborers.

9 “His rock will pass away because of panic,

And his princes will be terrified at the standard,”

Declares the Lord, whose fire is in Zion and whose furnace is in Jerusalem.
