Hosea 7:8–11 — The New International Version (NIV)
8 “Ephraim mixes with the nations;
Ephraim is a flat loaf not turned over.
9 Foreigners sap his strength,
but he does not realize it.
His hair is sprinkled with gray,
but he does not notice.
10 Israel’s arrogance testifies against him,
but despite all this
he does not return to the Lord his God
or search for him.
11 “Ephraim is like a dove,
easily deceived and senseless—
now calling to Egypt,
now turning to Assyria.
Hosea 7:8–11 — King James Version (KJV 1900)
8 Ephraim, he hath mixed himself among the people;
Ephraim is a cake not turned.
9 Strangers have devoured his strength, and he knoweth it not:
Yea, gray hairs are here and there upon him, yet he knoweth not.
10 And the pride of Israel testifieth to his face:
And they do not return to the Lord their God, nor seek him for all this.
11 Ephraim also is like a silly dove without heart:
They call to Egypt, they go to Assyria.
Hosea 7:8–11 — New Living Translation (NLT)
8 “The people of Israel mingle with godless foreigners,
making themselves as worthless as a half-baked cake!
9 Worshiping foreign gods has sapped their strength,
but they don’t even know it.
Their hair is gray,
but they don’t realize they’re old and weak.
10 Their arrogance testifies against them,
yet they don’t return to the Lord their God
or even try to find him.
11 “The people of Israel have become like silly, witless doves,
first calling to Egypt, then flying to Assyria for help.
Hosea 7:8–11 — The New King James Version (NKJV)
8 “Ephraim has mixed himself among the peoples;
Ephraim is a cake unturned.
9 Aliens have devoured his strength,
But he does not know it;
Yes, gray hairs are here and there on him,
Yet he does not know it.
10 And the pride of Israel testifies to his face,
But they do not return to the Lord their God,
Nor seek Him for all this.
11 “Ephraim also is like a silly dove, without sense—
They call to Egypt,
They go to Assyria.
Hosea 7:8–11 — New Century Version (NCV)
8 “Israel mixes with other nations;
he is like a pancake cooked only on one side.
9 Foreign nations have eaten up his strength,
but he doesn’t know it.
Israel is weak and feeble, like an old man,
but he doesn’t know it.
10 Israel’s pride will cause their defeat;
they will not turn back to the Lord their God
or look to him for help in all this.
11 Israel has become like a pigeon—
easy to fool and stupid.
First they call to Egypt for help.
Then they run to Assyria.
Hosea 7:8–11 — American Standard Version (ASV)
8 Ephraim, he mixeth himself among the peoples; Ephraim is a cake not turned. 9 Strangers have devoured his strength, and he knoweth it not: yea, gray hairs are here and there upon him, and he knoweth it not. 10 And the pride of Israel doth testify to his face: yet they have not returned unto Jehovah their God, nor sought him, for all this. 11 And Ephraim is like a silly dove, without understanding: they call unto Egypt, they go to Assyria.
Hosea 7:8–11 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)
8 Ephraim, he mixeth himself with the peoples; Ephraim is a cake not turned. 9 Strangers have devoured his strength, and he knoweth it not; yea, gray hairs are here and there upon him, and he knoweth it not. 10 And the pride of Israel testifieth to his face; and they do not return to Jehovah their God, nor seek him for all this. 11 And Ephraim is become like a silly dove without understanding: they call to Egypt, they go to Assyria.
Hosea 7:8–11 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)
8 “Ephraim mixes with other nations.
Ephraim, you are like a half-baked loaf of bread.
9 Foreigners are using up your strength, but you don’t realize it.
You have become a gray-haired, old man, but you don’t realize it.
10 Israel, your arrogance testifies against you,
but even after all this, you don’t turn to the Lord your God
or look to him for help.
11 Ephraim, you are like a silly, senseless dove.
You call for Egypt and run to Assyria for help.
Hosea 7:8–11 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)
8 Ephraim has allowed himself to get mixed up with the nations.
Ephraim is unturned bread baked on a griddle.
9 Foreigners consume his strength,
but he does not notice.
Even his hair is streaked with gray,
but he does not notice.
10 Israel’s arrogance testifies against them,
yet they do not return to Yahweh their God,
and for all this, they do not seek Him.
11 So Ephraim has become like a silly, senseless dove;
they call to Egypt, and they go to Assyria.
Hosea 7:8–11 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)
8 Ephraim mixes himself with the peoples;
Ephraim is a cake not turned.
9 Foreigners devour his strength,
but he does not know it;
gray hairs are sprinkled upon him,
but he does not know it.
10 Israel’s pride testifies against him;
yet they do not return to the Lord their God,
or seek him, for all this.
11 Ephraim has become like a dove,
silly and without sense;
they call upon Egypt, they go to Assyria.
Hosea 7:8–11 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)
8 Ephraim mixes himself
with the nations;
Ephraim is a bread cake
not turned over.
9 Foreigners devour his strength,
and he does not know it;
mold is also sprinkled upon him,
and he does not know it.
10 The pride of Israel testifies against him—
they do not return to Yahweh their God;
they do not seek him for all of this.
11 Ephraim was like a dove,
silly, without sense;
they call to Egypt,
they go to Assyria.
Hosea 7:8–11 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)
8 The people of Ephraim mix with the nations.
They are like a flat cake
that is baked on only one side.
9 People from other lands make them weaker and weaker.
But they don’t realize it.
Their hair is becoming gray.
But they don’t even notice it.
10 The pride of Israel witnesses that they are guilty.
But in spite of everything,
they don’t return to the Lord their God.
They don’t go to him for help.
11 The Lord says,
“The people of Ephraim are like a dove.
They are easily tricked.
They do not have any sense at all.
First they call out to Egypt for help.
Then they turn to Assyria.
Hosea 7:8–11 — New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update (NASB95)
8 Ephraim mixes himself with the nations;
Ephraim has become a cake not turned.
9 Strangers devour his strength,
Yet he does not know it;
Gray hairs also are sprinkled on him,
Yet he does not know it.
10 Though the pride of Israel testifies against him,
Yet they have not returned to the Lord their God,
Nor have they sought Him, for all this.
11 So Ephraim has become like a silly dove, without sense;
They call to Egypt, they go to Assyria.
