Ezekiel 27:6–10

6 Of oaks from Bashan

they made your oars;

of cypress wood from the coasts of Cyprus

they made your deck, adorned with ivory.

7 Fine embroidered linen from Egypt was your sail

and served as your banner;

your awnings were of blue and purple

from the coasts of Elishah.

8 Men of Sidon and Arvad were your oarsmen;

your skilled men, Tyre, were aboard as your sailors.

9 Veteran craftsmen of Byblos were on board

as shipwrights to caulk your seams.

All the ships of the sea and their sailors

came alongside to trade for your wares.

10 “ ‘Men of Persia, Lydia and Put

served as soldiers in your army.

They hung their shields and helmets on your walls,

bringing you splendor.

6 Of the oaks of Bashan have they made thine oars; the company of the Ashurites have made thy benches of ivory, brought out of the isles of Chittim. 7 Fine linen with broidered work from Egypt was that which thou spreadest forth to be thy sail; blue and purple from the isles of Elishah was that which covered thee. 8 The inhabitants of Zidon and Arvad were thy mariners: thy wise men, O Tyrus, that were in thee, were thy pilots. 9 The ancients of Gebal and the wise men thereof were in thee thy calkers: all the ships of the sea with their mariners were in thee to occupy thy merchandise. 10 They of Persia and of Lud and of Phut were in thine army, thy men of war: they hanged the shield and helmet in thee; they set forth thy comeliness.

6 They carved your oars

from the oaks of Bashan.

Your deck of pine from the coasts of Cyprus

was inlaid with ivory.

7 Your sails were made of Egypt’s finest linen,

and they flew as a banner above you.

You stood beneath blue and purple awnings

made bright with dyes from the coasts of Elishah.

8 Your oarsmen came from Sidon and Arvad;

your helmsmen were skilled men from Tyre itself.

9 Wise old craftsmen from Gebal did the caulking.

Ships from every land came with goods to barter for your trade.

10 “Men from distant Persia, Lydia, and Libya served in your great army. They hung their shields and helmets on your walls, giving you great honor.

6 Of oaks from Bashan they made your oars;

The company of Ashurites have inlaid your planks

With ivory from the coasts of Cyprus.

7 Fine embroidered linen from Egypt was what you spread for your sail;

Blue and purple from the coasts of Elishah was what covered you.

8 “Inhabitants of Sidon and Arvad were your oarsmen;

Your wise men, O Tyre, were in you;

They became your pilots.

9 Elders of Gebal and its wise men

Were in you to caulk your seams;

All the ships of the sea

And their oarsmen were in you

To market your merchandise.

10 “Those from Persia, Lydia, and Libya

Were in your army as men of war;

They hung shield and helmet in you;

They gave splendor to you.

6 They made your oars

from oak trees from Bashan.

They made your deck

from cypress trees from the coast of Cyprus

and set ivory into it.

7 Your sail of linen with designs sewed on it came from Egypt

and became like a flag for you.

Your cloth shades over the deck were blue and purple

and came from the island of Cyprus.

8 Men from Sidon and Arvad used oars to row you.

Tyre, your skilled men were the sailors on your deck.

9 Workers of Byblos were with you,

putting caulk in your ship’s seams.

All the ships of the sea and their sailors

came alongside to trade with you.

10 “ ‘Men of Persia, Lydia, and Put

were warriors in your navy

and hung their shields and helmets on your sides.

They made you look beautiful.

6 Of the oaks of Bashan have they made thine oars; they have made thy benches of ivory inlaid in boxwood, from the isles of Kittim. 7 Of fine linen with broidered work from Egypt was thy sail, that it might be to thee for an ensign; blue and purple from the isles of Elishah was thine awning. 8 The inhabitants of Sidon and Arvad were thy rowers: thy wise men, O Tyre, were in thee, they were thy pilots. 9 The old men of Gebal and the wise men thereof were in thee thy calkers: all the ships of the sea with their mariners were in thee to deal in thy merchandise. 10 Persia and Lud and Put were in thine army, thy men of war: they hanged the shield and helmet in thee; they set forth thy comeliness.

6 Of the oaks of Bashan did they make thine oars; they made thy benches of ivory, inlaid in box-wood, out of the isles of Chittim. 7 Byssus with broidered work from Egypt was thy sail, to serve thee for a banner; blue and purple from the isles of Elishah was thine awning. 8 The inhabitants of Zidon and Arvad were thy rowers; thy wise men, O Tyre, who were in thee, were thy pilots. 9 The elders of Gebal and the wise men thereof were in thee repairing thy leaks; all the ships of the sea with their mariners were in thee, to barter with thee. 10 Persia and Lud and Phut were in thine army, thy men of war: they hanged shield and helmet in thee; they gave splendour to thee.

6 They made your oars from oaks in Bashan. 

They made your deck from pine trees on the shores of Cyprus. 

It had ivory set in it. 

7 Your sails were made out of fine embroidered linen from Egypt. 

They were like your flags. 

Your awnings were violet and purple. 

They came from the coasts of Elishah. 

8 People from Sidon and Arvad used to row you. 

Your own skilled people were your sailors. 

9 Master shipbuilders from Gebal went inside you to caulk your seams. 

All the ships on the sea and their sailors 

docked alongside you to trade with you. 

10 People from Persia, Lud, and Put were soldiers in your army. 

They hung their shields and helmets inside you. 

Their victories made you look good.

from the coasts of Cyprus,

inlaid with ivory.

7 Your sail was made of

fine embroidered linen from Egypt,

and served as your banner.

Your awning was of blue and purple fabric

from the coasts of Elishah.

8 The inhabitants of Sidon and Arvad

were your rowers.

Your wise men were within you, Tyre;

they were your captains.

9 The elders of Gebal and its wise men

were within you, repairing your leaks.

All the ships of the sea and their sailors

came to you to barter for your goods.

10 Men of Persia, Lud, and Put

were in your army, serving as your warriors.

They hung shields and helmets in you;

they gave you splendor.

they made your oars;

they made your deck of pines

from the coasts of Cyprus,

inlaid with ivory.

7 Of fine embroidered linen from Egypt

was your sail,

serving as your ensign;

blue and purple from the coasts of Elishah

was your awning.

8 The inhabitants of Sidon and Arvad

were your rowers;

skilled men of Zemer were within you;

they were your pilots.

9 The elders of Gebal and its artisans were within you,

caulking your seams;

all the ships of the sea with their sailors were within you,

to barter for your wares.

10 Paras and Lud and Put

were in your army,

your mighty warriors;

they hung shield and helmet in you;

they gave you splendor.

6 They made your oars

with oaks from Bashan;

your deck they made with inlaid ivory,

with cypress trees from the coastlands of Cyprus.

7 Your sail was fine linen with colorful weaving from Egypt

to serve as a banner for you;

blue and purple cloth from the coastlands of Cyprus

was your awning.

8 The inhabitants of Sidon and Arvan

were your rowers;

your skilled men, O Tyre, were from your own people,

and they were your seamen.

9 The elders of Gebal and its skilled men were among you

as the repairers of the seam of your boat;

all of the ships of the sea and their mariners were among you

to barter your wares.

10 Persia and Lud and Put

were among your soldiers;

small shield and helmet hung among you

and gave to you your adornment.

6 They made your oars

out of oak trees from Bashan.

They made your deck out of cypress wood

from the coasts of Cyprus.

They decorated it with ivory.

7 Your sail was made out of beautiful, Egyptian linen.

It served as your banner.

Your shades were made out of blue and purple cloth.

They were from the coasts of Elishah.

8 Men from Sidon and Arvad manned your oars.

Tyre, your sailors were skillful.

9 Very skilled workers from Byblos were on board.

They kept you waterproof.

All of the ships on the sea and their sailors

came up beside you.

They brought their goods to trade for yours.

10 “ ‘ “City of Tyre, men from Persia, Lydia and Put

served as soldiers in your army.

They hung their shields and helmets on your walls.

That brought glory to you.

6 “Of oaks from Bashan they have made your oars;

With ivory they have inlaid your deck of boxwood from the coastlands of Cyprus.

7 “Your sail was of fine embroidered linen from Egypt

So that it became your distinguishing mark;

Your awning was blue and purple from the coastlands of Elishah.

8 “The inhabitants of Sidon and Arvad were your rowers;

Your wise men, O Tyre, were aboard; they were your pilots.

9 “The elders of Gebal and her wise men were with you repairing your seams;

All the ships of the sea and their sailors were with you in order to deal in your merchandise.

10 “Persia and Lud and Put were in your army, your men of war. They hung shield and helmet in you; they set forth your splendor.
