Ezekiel 24:3–6

3 Tell this rebellious people a parable and say to them: ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says:

“ ‘Put on the cooking pot; put it on

and pour water into it.

4 Put into it the pieces of meat,

all the choice pieces—the leg and the shoulder.

Fill it with the best of these bones;

5 take the pick of the flock.

Pile wood beneath it for the bones;

bring it to a boil

and cook the bones in it.

6 “ ‘For this is what the Sovereign Lord says:

“ ‘Woe to the city of bloodshed,

to the pot now encrusted,

whose deposit will not go away!

Take the meat out piece by piece

in whatever order it comes.

3 And utter a parable unto the rebellious house, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord God; Set on a pot, set it on, and also pour water into it: 4 Gather the pieces thereof into it, even every good piece, the thigh, and the shoulder; fill it with the choice bones. 5 Take the choice of the flock, and burn also the bones under it, and make it boil well, and let them seethe the bones of it therein.

6 Wherefore thus saith the Lord God; Woe to the bloody city, to the pot whose scum is therein, and whose scum is not gone out of it! bring it out piece by piece; let no lot fall upon it.

3 Then give these rebels an illustration with this message from the Sovereign Lord:

“Put a pot on the fire,

and pour in some water.

4 Fill it with choice pieces of meat—

the rump and the shoulder

and all the most tender cuts.

5 Use only the best sheep from the flock,

and heap fuel on the fire beneath the pot.

Bring the pot to a boil,

and cook the bones along with the meat.

6 “Now this is what the Sovereign Lord says:

What sorrow awaits Jerusalem,

the city of murderers!

She is a cooking pot

whose corruption can’t be cleaned out.

Take the meat out in random order,

for no piece is better than another.

3 And utter a parable to the rebellious house, and say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord God:

“Put on a pot, set it on,

And also pour water into it.

4 Gather pieces of meat in it,

Every good piece,

The thigh and the shoulder.

Fill it with choice cuts;

5 Take the choice of the flock.

Also pile fuel bones under it,

Make it boil well,

And let the cuts simmer in it.”

6 ‘Therefore thus says the Lord God:

“Woe to the bloody city,

To the pot whose scum is in it,

And whose scum is not gone from it!

Bring it out piece by piece,

On which no lot has fallen.

3 And tell a story to the people who refuse to obey me. Say to them: ‘This is what the Lord God says:

Put on the pot; put it on

and pour water in it.

4 Put in the pieces of meat,

the best pieces—the legs and the shoulders.

Fill it with the best bones.

5 Take the best of the flock,

and pile wood under the pot.

Boil the pieces of meat

until even the bones are cooked.

6 “ ‘This is what the Lord God says:

How terrible it will be for the city of murderers!

How terrible it will be for the rusty pot

whose rust will not come off!

Take the meat out of it, piece by piece.

Don’t choose any special piece.

3 And utter a parable unto the rebellious house, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah, Set on the caldron, set it on, and also pour water into it: 4 gather the pieces thereof into it, even every good piece, the thigh, and the shoulder; fill it with the choice bones. 5 Take the choice of the flock, and also a pile of wood for the bones under the caldron; make it boil well; yea, let the bones thereof be boiled in the midst of it.

6 Wherefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Woe to the bloody city, to the caldron whose rust is therein, and whose rust is not gone out of it! take out of it piece after piece; No lot is fallen upon it.

3 And propose a parable unto the rebellious house, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Set on the pot, set it on, and also pour water into it. 4 Gather the pieces thereof into it, every good piece, the thigh and the shoulder; fill it with the choice bones: 5 take the choice of the flock; and also put a pile of wood under it, for the bones; make it boil well, and let the bones of it seethe therein. 6 Therefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Woe to the bloody city, to the pot whose rust is therein, and whose rust is not gone out of it! Bring it out piece by piece; let no lot fall upon it:

3 Tell these rebellious people a story. Tell them, ‘This is what the Almighty Lord says: 

Put the pot on the fire; put it on. 

Pour water in it. 

4 Cut the meat into pieces, 

all the best pieces, the thigh and shoulder. 

Fill the pot with the meatiest bones 

5 selected from the best sheep. 

Pile wood under the pot. 

Bring the mixture in the pot to a boil. 

Cook the bones that are in it well. 

6 “ ‘This is what the Almighty Lord says: 

How horrible it will be for that city of murderers, 

for that tarnished pot. 

Its tarnish will not come off. 

Empty the meat out of it piece by piece 

without choosing any particular piece. 

3 Now speak a parable to the rebellious house. Tell them: This is what the Lord God says:

Put the pot on the fire—

put it on,

and then pour water into it!

4 Place the pieces of meat in it,

every good piece—

thigh and shoulder.

Fill it with choice bones.

5 Take the choicest of the flock

and also pile up the fuel under it.

Bring it to a boil

and cook the bones in it.”

6 Therefore, this is what the Lord God says:

Woe to the city of bloodshed,

the pot that has rust inside it,

and whose rust will not come off!

Empty it piece by piece;

lots should not be cast for its contents.

3 And utter an allegory to the rebellious house and say to them: Thus says the Lord God:

Set on the pot; set it on;

pour in water also;

4 put in it the pieces,

all the good pieces, the thigh and the shoulder;

fill it with choice cuts.

5 Take the choicest one of the flock;

pile the logs under it;

boil its pieces;

seethe also its bones in it.

6 Therefore thus says the Lord God:

Woe to the bloody city,

the pot whose crud is in it,

whose crud has not gone out of it!

Empty it piece by piece,

making no choice at all.

3 And deliver a proverb to the rebellious house, and you must say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord Yahweh: “Place the pot! Place it and also pour water into it. 4 Gather its pieces to it, every good piece, thigh and shoulder, fill it with choice bones; 5 take the choicest of the flock, and also pile the bones under it; boil it vigorously; indeed, its bones boiled in the midst of it.” ’ ”

6 Therefore thus says the Lord Yahweh: “Woe to the city of bloodguilt! A pot that has its rust in it; its rust did not go out from it. Bring it out piece by piece; one is as good as another.

3 “Your people refuse to obey me. So tell them a story. Say to them, ‘The Lord and King told me,

“ ‘ “Put a cooking pot on the fire.

Pour water into it.

4 Put pieces of meat in it.

Use all of the best pieces.

Use the leg and shoulder.

Fill it with the best bones.

5 Pick the finest animal in the flock.

Pile wood under the pot to cook the bones.

Bring the water to a boil.

Cook the bones in it.” ’ ”

6 The Lord and King says,

“How terrible it will be for this city!

It has so many murderers in it.

How terrible for the pot that is coated with scum!

The scum on it will not go away.

Take the meat and bones out of the pot piece by piece.

Do not cast lots for them.

3 “Speak a parable to the rebellious house and say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord God,

“Put on the pot, put it on and also pour water in it;

4 Put in it the pieces,

Every good piece, the thigh and the shoulder;

Fill it with choice bones.

5 “Take the choicest of the flock,

And also pile wood under the pot.

Make it boil vigorously.

Also seethe its bones in it.”

6 ‘Therefore, thus says the Lord God,

“Woe to the bloody city,

To the pot in which there is rust

And whose rust has not gone out of it!

Take out of it piece after piece,

Without making a choice.
