1 In the ninth year, in the tenth month on the tenth day, the word of the Lord came to me: 2 “Son of man, record this date, this very date, because the king of Babylon has laid siege to Jerusalem this very day. 3 Tell this rebellious people a parable and say to them: ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says:

“ ‘Put on the cooking pot; put it on

and pour water into it.

4 Put into it the pieces of meat,

all the choice pieces—the leg and the shoulder.

Fill it with the best of these bones;

5 take the pick of the flock.

Pile wood beneath it for the bones;

bring it to a boil

and cook the bones in it.

1 Again in the ninth year, in the tenth month, in the tenth day of the month, the word of the Lord came unto me, saying, 2 Son of man, write thee the name of the day, even of this same day: the king of Babylon set himself against Jerusalem this same day. 3 And utter a parable unto the rebellious house, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord God; Set on a pot, set it on, and also pour water into it: 4 Gather the pieces thereof into it, even every good piece, the thigh, and the shoulder; fill it with the choice bones. 5 Take the choice of the flock, and burn also the bones under it, and make it boil well, and let them seethe the bones of it therein.

1 On January 15, during the ninth year of King Jehoiachin’s captivity, this message came to me from the Lord: 2 “Son of man, write down today’s date, because on this very day the king of Babylon is beginning his attack against Jerusalem. 3 Then give these rebels an illustration with this message from the Sovereign Lord:

“Put a pot on the fire,

and pour in some water.

4 Fill it with choice pieces of meat—

the rump and the shoulder

and all the most tender cuts.

5 Use only the best sheep from the flock,

and heap fuel on the fire beneath the pot.

Bring the pot to a boil,

and cook the bones along with the meat.

1 Again, in the ninth year, in the tenth month, on the tenth day of the month, the word of the Lord came to me, saying, 2 “Son of man, write down the name of the day, this very day—the king of Babylon started his siege against Jerusalem this very day. 3 And utter a parable to the rebellious house, and say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord God:

“Put on a pot, set it on,

And also pour water into it.

4 Gather pieces of meat in it,

Every good piece,

The thigh and the shoulder.

Fill it with choice cuts;

5 Take the choice of the flock.

Also pile fuel bones under it,

Make it boil well,

And let the cuts simmer in it.”

1 The Lord spoke his word to me in the ninth year of our captivity, in the tenth month, on the tenth day of the month. He said: 2 “Human, write down today’s date, this very date. The king of Babylon has surrounded Jerusalem this very day. 3 And tell a story to the people who refuse to obey me. Say to them: ‘This is what the Lord God says:

Put on the pot; put it on

and pour water in it.

4 Put in the pieces of meat,

the best pieces—the legs and the shoulders.

Fill it with the best bones.

5 Take the best of the flock,

and pile wood under the pot.

Boil the pieces of meat

until even the bones are cooked.

1 Again, in the ninth year, in the tenth month, in the tenth day of the month, the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying, 2 Son of man, write thee the name of the day, even of this selfsame day: the king of Babylon drew close unto Jerusalem this selfsame day. 3 And utter a parable unto the rebellious house, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah, Set on the caldron, set it on, and also pour water into it: 4 gather the pieces thereof into it, even every good piece, the thigh, and the shoulder; fill it with the choice bones. 5 Take the choice of the flock, and also a pile of wood for the bones under the caldron; make it boil well; yea, let the bones thereof be boiled in the midst of it.

1 And in the ninth year, in the tenth month, on the tenth of the month, the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying, 2 Son of man, write thee the name of the day, of this selfsame day: on this selfsame day the king of Babylon draws near to Jerusalem. 3 And propose a parable unto the rebellious house, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Set on the pot, set it on, and also pour water into it. 4 Gather the pieces thereof into it, every good piece, the thigh and the shoulder; fill it with the choice bones: 5 take the choice of the flock; and also put a pile of wood under it, for the bones; make it boil well, and let the bones of it seethe therein.

1 On the tenth day of the tenth month in the ninth year, the Lord spoke his word to me. He said, 2 “Son of man, write down today’s date. The king of Babylon has surrounded Jerusalem this very day. 3 Tell these rebellious people a story. Tell them, ‘This is what the Almighty Lord says: 

Put the pot on the fire; put it on. 

Pour water in it. 

4 Cut the meat into pieces, 

all the best pieces, the thigh and shoulder. 

Fill the pot with the meatiest bones 

5 selected from the best sheep. 

Pile wood under the pot. 

Bring the mixture in the pot to a boil. 

Cook the bones that are in it well.

The king of Babylon has laid siege to Jerusalem this very day. 3 Now speak a parable to the rebellious house. Tell them: This is what the Lord God says:

Put the pot on the fire—

put it on,

and then pour water into it!

4 Place the pieces of meat in it,

every good piece—

thigh and shoulder.

Fill it with choice bones.

5 Take the choicest of the flock

and also pile up the fuel under it.

Bring it to a boil

and cook the bones in it.”

The king of Babylon has laid siege to Jerusalem this very day. 3 And utter an allegory to the rebellious house and say to them, Thus says the Lord God:

Set on the pot, set it on,

pour in water also;

4 put in it the pieces,

all the good pieces, the thigh and the shoulder;

fill it with choice bones.

5 Take the choicest one of the flock,

pile the logs under it;

boil its pieces,

seethe also its bones in it.

1 And the word of Yahweh came to me in the ninth year, in the tenth month, on the tenth day of the month, saying, 2 “Son of man, write for yourself the name of the day, this very day. The king of Babylon laid siege to Jerusalem on exactly this day! 3 And deliver a proverb to the rebellious house, and you must say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord Yahweh: “Place the pot! Place it and also pour water into it. 4 Gather its pieces to it, every good piece, thigh and shoulder, fill it with choice bones; 5 take the choicest of the flock, and also pile the bones under it; boil it vigorously; indeed, its bones boiled in the midst of it.” ’ ”

1 It was the ninth year since King Jehoiachin had been brought to Babylon as a prisoner. On the tenth day of the tenth month, a message came to me from the Lord. He said, 2 “Son of man, write down today’s date. The king of Babylonia has surrounded Jerusalem and attacked it this very day.

3 “Your people refuse to obey me. So tell them a story. Say to them, ‘The Lord and King told me,

“ ‘ “Put a cooking pot on the fire.

Pour water into it.

4 Put pieces of meat in it.

Use all of the best pieces.

Use the leg and shoulder.

Fill it with the best bones.

5 Pick the finest animal in the flock.

Pile wood under the pot to cook the bones.

Bring the water to a boil.

Cook the bones in it.” ’ ”

1 And the word of the Lord came to me in the ninth year, in the tenth month, on the tenth of the month, saying,

2 “Son of man, write the name of the day, this very day. The king of Babylon has laid siege to Jerusalem this very day.

3 “Speak a parable to the rebellious house and say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord God,

“Put on the pot, put it on and also pour water in it;

4 Put in it the pieces,

Every good piece, the thigh and the shoulder;

Fill it with choice bones.

5 “Take the choicest of the flock,

And also pile wood under the pot.

Make it boil vigorously.

Also seethe its bones in it.”
