Ecclesiastes 8:1–5 — New International Version (2011) (NIV)
1 Who is like the wise?
Who knows the explanation of things?
A person’s wisdom brightens their face
and changes its hard appearance.
2 Obey the king’s command, I say, because you took an oath before God. 3 Do not be in a hurry to leave the king’s presence. Do not stand up for a bad cause, for he will do whatever he pleases. 4 Since a king’s word is supreme, who can say to him, “What are you doing?”
5 Whoever obeys his command will come to no harm,
and the wise heart will know the proper time and procedure.
Ecclesiastes 8:1–5 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

Ecclesiastes 8:1–5 — New Living Translation (NLT)

to analyze and interpret things.
Wisdom lights up a person’s face,
softening its harshness.
2 Obey the king since you vowed to God that you would. 3 Don’t try to avoid doing your duty, and don’t stand with those who plot evil, for the king can do whatever he wants. 4 His command is backed by great power. No one can resist or question it. 5 Those who obey him will not be punished. Those who are wise will find a time and a way to do what is right,

And who may say to him, “What are you doing?”
