Ecclesiastes 4:9–11 — The New International Version (NIV)

Two are better than one,

because they have a good return for their labor:

10 If either of them falls down,

one can help the other up.

But pity anyone who falls

and has no one to help them up.

11 Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm.

But how can one keep warm alone?

Ecclesiastes 4:9–11 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour. 10 For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up. 11 Again, if two lie together, then they have heat: but how can one be warm alone?

Ecclesiastes 4:9–11 — New Living Translation (NLT)

Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. 10 If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble. 11 Likewise, two people lying close together can keep each other warm. But how can one be warm alone?

Ecclesiastes 4:9–11 — The New King James Version (NKJV)

Two are better than one,

Because they have a good reward for their labor.

10 For if they fall, one will lift up his companion.

But woe to him who is alone when he falls,

For he has no one to help him up.

11 Again, if two lie down together, they will keep warm;

But how can one be warm alone?

Ecclesiastes 4:9–11 — New Century Version (NCV)

Two people are better than one,

because they get more done by working together.

10 If one falls down,

the other can help him up.

But it is bad for the person who is alone and falls,

because no one is there to help.

11 If two lie down together, they will be warm,

but a person alone will not be warm.

Ecclesiastes 4:9–11 — American Standard Version (ASV)

Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor. 10 For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow; but woe to him that is alone when he falleth, and hath not another to lift him up. 11 Again, if two lie together, then they have warmth; but how can one be warm alone?

Ecclesiastes 4:9–11 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour. 10 For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow; but woe to him that is alone when he falleth, and who hath not another to lift him up! 11 Again, if two lie together, then they have warmth; but how can one alone be warm?

Ecclesiastes 4:9–11 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

Two people are better than one because ⸤together⸥ they have a good reward for their hard work. 10 If one falls, the other can help his friend get up. But how tragic it is for the one who is ⸤all⸥ alone when he falls. There is no one to help him get up. 11 Again, if two people lie down together, they can keep warm, but how can one person keep warm?

Ecclesiastes 4:9–11 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

Two are better than one because they have a good reward for their efforts. 10 For if either falls, his companion can lift him up; but pity the one who falls without another to lift him up. 11 Also, if two lie down together, they can keep warm; but how can one person alone keep warm?

Ecclesiastes 4:9–11 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. 10 For if they fall, one will lift up the other; but woe to one who is alone and falls and does not have another to help. 11 Again, if two lie together, they keep warm; but how can one keep warm alone?

Ecclesiastes 4:9–11 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)

Two are better than the one, for they enjoy a better reward for their toil. 10 For if they fall, one will help up his companion. But pity the one who falls and there is no one to help him up. 11 Also if two lie together, they can keep each other warm. But how can one person be warm?

Ecclesiastes 4:9–11 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)

Two people are better than one.

They can help each other in everything they do.

10 Suppose someone falls down.

Then his friend can help him up.

But suppose the man who falls down doesn’t have anyone to help him up.

Then feel sorry for him!

11 Or suppose two people lie down together.

Then they’ll keep warm.

But how can one person keep warm alone?

Ecclesiastes 4:9–11 — New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update (NASB95)

Two are better than one because they have a good return for their labor.

10 For if either of them falls, the one will lift up his companion. But woe to the one who falls when there is not another to lift him up.
