Ecclesiastes 5:3–5
Ecclesiastes 5:3–5 — New International Version (2011) (NIV)
3 A dream comes when there are many cares,
and many words mark the speech of a fool.
4 When you make a vow to God, do not delay to fulfill it. He has no pleasure in fools; fulfill your vow. 5 It is better not to make a vow than to make one and not fulfill it.
Ecclesiastes 5:3–5 — King James Version (KJV 1900)
3 For a dream cometh through the multitude of business; and a fool’s voice is known by multitude of words. 4 When thou vowest a vow unto God, defer not to pay it; for he hath no pleasure in fools: pay that which thou hast vowed. 5 Better is it that thou shouldest not vow, than that thou shouldest vow and not pay.
Ecclesiastes 5:3–5 — New Living Translation (NLT)
3 Too much activity gives you restless dreams; too many words make you a fool.
4 When you make a promise to God, don’t delay in following through, for God takes no pleasure in fools. Keep all the promises you make to him. 5 It is better to say nothing than to make a promise and not keep it.
Ecclesiastes 5:3–5 — The New King James Version (NKJV)
3 For a dream comes through much activity,
And a fool’s voice is known by his many words.
4 When you make a vow to God, do not delay to pay it;
For He has no pleasure in fools.
Pay what you have vowed—
5 Better not to vow than to vow and not pay.
Ecclesiastes 5:3–5 — New Century Version (NCV)
3 The saying is true: Bad dreams come from too much worrying,
and too many words come from foolish people.
4 If you make a promise to God, don’t be slow to keep it. God is not happy with fools, so give God what you promised. 5 It is better not to promise anything than to promise something and not do it.
Ecclesiastes 5:3–5 — American Standard Version (ASV)
3 For a dream cometh with a multitude of business, and a fool’s voice with a multitude of words. 4 When thou vowest a vow unto God, defer not to pay it; for he hath no pleasure in fools: pay that which thou vowest. 5 Better is it that thou shouldest not vow, than that thou shouldest vow and not pay.
