Amos 9:7–10 — The New International Version (NIV)

“Are not you Israelites

the same to me as the Cushites?”

declares the Lord.

“Did I not bring Israel up from Egypt,

the Philistines from Caphtor

and the Arameans from Kir?

“Surely the eyes of the Sovereign Lord

are on the sinful kingdom.

I will destroy it

from the face of the earth.

Yet I will not totally destroy

the descendants of Jacob,”

declares the Lord.

“For I will give the command,

and I will shake the people of Israel

among all the nations

as grain is shaken in a sieve,

and not a pebble will reach the ground.

10 All the sinners among my people

will die by the sword,

all those who say,

‘Disaster will not overtake or meet us.’

Amos 9:7–10 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

Are ye not as children of the Ethiopians unto me, O children of Israel? saith the Lord.

Have not I brought up Israel out of the land of Egypt?

And the Philistines from Caphtor, and the Syrians from Kir?

Behold, the eyes of the Lord God are upon the sinful kingdom,

And I will destroy it from off the face of the earth;

Saving that I will not utterly destroy the house of Jacob, saith the Lord.

For, lo, I will command, and I will sift the house of Israel among all nations,

Like as corn is sifted in a sieve, yet shall not the least grain fall upon the earth.

10 All the sinners of my people shall die by the sword,

Which say, The evil shall not overtake nor prevent us.

Amos 9:7–10 — New Living Translation (NLT)

“Are you Israelites more important to me

than the Ethiopians?” asks the Lord.

“I brought Israel out of Egypt,

but I also brought the Philistines from Crete

and led the Arameans out of Kir.

“I, the Sovereign Lord,

am watching this sinful nation of Israel.

I will destroy it

from the face of the earth.

But I will never completely destroy the family of Israel,”

says the Lord.

“For I will give the command

and will shake Israel along with the other nations

as grain is shaken in a sieve,

yet not one true kernel will be lost.

10 But all the sinners will die by the sword—

all those who say, ‘Nothing bad will happen to us.’

Amos 9:7–10 — The New King James Version (NKJV)

Are you not like the people of Ethiopia to Me,

O children of Israel?” says the Lord.

“Did I not bring up Israel from the land of Egypt,

The Philistines from Caphtor,

And the Syrians from Kir?

“Behold, the eyes of the Lord God are on the sinful kingdom,

And I will destroy it from the face of the earth;

Yet I will not utterly destroy the house of Jacob,”

Says the Lord.

“For surely I will command,

And will sift the house of Israel among all nations,

As grain is sifted in a sieve;

Yet not the smallest grain shall fall to the ground.

10 All the sinners of My people shall die by the sword,

Who say, ‘The calamity shall not overtake nor confront us.’

Amos 9:7–10 — New Century Version (NCV)

The Lord says,

“Israel, you are no different to me than the people of Cush.

I brought Israel out of the land of Egypt,

and the Philistines from Crete,

and the Arameans from Kir.

I, the Lord God, am watching the sinful kingdom Israel.

I will destroy it

from off the earth,

but I will not completely destroy

Jacob’s descendants,” says the Lord.

“I am giving the command

to scatter the nation of Israel among all nations.

It will be like someone shaking grain through a strainer,

but not even a tiny stone falls through.

10 All the sinners among my people

will die by the sword—

those who say,

‘Nothing bad will happen to us.’

Amos 9:7–10 — American Standard Version (ASV)

Are ye not as the children of the Ethiopians unto me, O children of Israel? saith Jehovah. Have not I brought up Israel out of the land of Egypt, and the Philistines from Caphtor, and the Syrians from Kir? Behold, the eyes of the Lord Jehovah are upon the sinful kingdom, and I will destroy it from off the face of the earth; save that I will not utterly destroy the house of Jacob, saith Jehovah. For, lo, I will command, and I will sift the house of Israel among all the nations, like as grain is sifted in a sieve, yet shall not the least kernel fall upon the earth. 10 All the sinners of my people shall die by the sword, who say, The evil shall not overtake nor meet us.

Amos 9:7–10 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

Are ye not as children of the Ethiopians unto me, O children of Israel? saith Jehovah. Have not I brought up Israel out of the land of Egypt? and the Philistines from Caphtor, and the Syrians from Kir? Behold, the eyes of the Lord Jehovah are upon the sinful kingdom, and I will destroy it from off the face of the earth: only that I will not utterly destroy the house of Jacob, saith Jehovah. For behold, I command, and I will shake the house of Israel to and fro among all the nations, like as one shaketh corn in a sieve; yet shall not the least grain fall upon the earth. 10 All the sinners of my people shall die by the sword, who say, Evil shall not overtake nor befall us.

Amos 9:7–10 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

You people of Israel are like the people from Sudan, says the Lord

Didn’t I bring Israel from Egypt?

Didn’t I bring the Philistines from Crete and the Arameans from Kir?

I, the Almighty Lord, have my eyes on this sinful kingdom.

I will wipe it off the face of the earth.

But I won’t totally destroy the descendants of Jacob, declares the Lord

I’m going to give the order.

I will sift the nation of Israel out of all the nations

as if I were using a sieve.

Not one pebble will fall to the ground.

10 All the sinners among my people are thinking,

“Destruction will not catch up to us or run into us.”

In spite of this, they will be killed with swords.

Amos 9:7–10 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

Israelites, are you not like the Cushites to Me?

This is the Lord’s declaration.

Didn’t I bring Israel from the land of Egypt,

the Philistines from Caphtor,

and the Arameans from Kir?

Look, the eyes of the Lord God

are on the sinful kingdom,

and I will destroy it

from the face of the earth.

However, I will not totally destroy

the house of Jacob —

this is the Lord’s declaration—

for I am about to give the command,

and I will shake the house of Israel

among all the nations,

as one shakes a sieve,

but not a pebble will fall to the ground.

10 All the sinners among My people

who say: “Disaster will never overtake

or confront us,”

will die by the sword.

Amos 9:7–10 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

Are you not like the Ethiopians to me,

O people of Israel? says the Lord.

Did I not bring Israel up from the land of Egypt,

and the Philistines from Caphtor and the Arameans from Kir?

The eyes of the Lord God are upon the sinful kingdom,

and I will destroy it from the face of the earth

—except that I will not utterly destroy the house of Jacob,

says the Lord.

For lo, I will command,

and shake the house of Israel among all the nations

as one shakes with a sieve,

but no pebble shall fall to the ground.

10 All the sinners of my people shall die by the sword,

who say, “Evil shall not overtake or meet us.”

Amos 9:7–10 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)

“Are you not like the Cushites to me, O people of Israel?” declares Yahweh. “Did I not bring up Israel from the land of Egypt and the Philistines from Caphtor and the Arameans from Kir? Look, the eyes of my Lord Yahweh are on the kingdom of sin, and I will destroy it from the surface of the earth. However, I will not utterly destroy the house of Jacob,” declares Yahweh. “Yes, look, I am going to command and I will shake the house of Israel among all the nations like one who shakes with a sieve, but not a pebble will fall to the ground. 10 All the sinners of my people will die by the sword, who say, ‘Evil will not overtake or confront us.’

Amos 9:7–10 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)

“You Israelites are just like

the people of Cush to me,”

announces the Lord.

“I brought Israel up from Egypt.

I also brought the Philistines from Crete

and the Arameans from Kir.

“I am the Lord and King.

My eyes are watching the sinful kingdom of Israel.

I will wipe it off the face of the earth.

But I will not totally destroy the people of Jacob,”

announces the Lord.

“I will give an order.

I will shake the people of Israel

among all of the nations.

They will be like grain that is shaken through a screen.

Not a pebble will fall to the ground.

10 All of the sinners among my people

will be killed with swords.

They say, ‘Nothing bad will ever happen to us.’

Amos 9:7–10 — New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update (NASB95)

O sons of Israel?” declares the Lord.

“Have I not brought up Israel from the land of Egypt,

And the Philistines from Caphtor and the Arameans from Kir?

Behold, the eyes of the Lord God are on the sinful kingdom,

And I will destroy it from the face of the earth;

Nevertheless, I will not totally destroy the house of Jacob,”

Declares the Lord.

“For behold, I am commanding,

And I will shake the house of Israel among all nations

As grain is shaken in a sieve,

But not a kernel will fall to the ground.

10 All the sinners of My people will die by the sword,
