9 “In that day,” declares the Sovereign Lord,

“I will make the sun go down at noon

and darken the earth in broad daylight.

10 I will turn your religious festivals into mourning

and all your singing into weeping.

I will make all of you wear sackcloth

and shave your heads.

I will make that time like mourning for an only son

and the end of it like a bitter day.

9 And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the Lord God,

That I will cause the sun to go down at noon,

And I will darken the earth in the clear day:

10 And I will turn your feasts into mourning,

And all your songs into lamentation;

And I will bring up sackcloth upon all loins,

And baldness upon every head;

And I will make it as the mourning of an only son,

And the end thereof as a bitter day.

9 “In that day,” says the Sovereign Lord,

and darken the earth while it is still day.

10 I will turn your celebrations into times of mourning

and your singing into weeping.

You will wear funeral clothes

and shave your heads to show your sorrow—

as if your only son had died.

How very bitter that day will be!

9 “And it shall come to pass in that day,” says the Lord God,

“That I will make the sun go down at noon,

And I will darken the earth in broad daylight;

10 I will turn your feasts into mourning,

And all your songs into lamentation;

I will bring sackcloth on every waist,

And baldness on every head;

I will make it like mourning for an only son,

And its end like a bitter day.

9 The Lord God says:

“At that time I will cause the sun to go down at noon

and make the earth dark on a bright day.

10 I will change your festivals into days of crying for the dead,

and all your songs will become songs of sadness.

I will make all of you wear rough cloth to show your sadness;

I will make you shave your heads as well.

I will make it like a time of crying for the death of an only son,

and its end like the end of an awful day.”

9 And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the Lord Jehovah, that I will cause the sun to go down at noon, and I will darken the earth in the clear day. 10 And I will turn your feasts into mourning, and all your songs into lamentation; and I will bring sackcloth upon all loins, and baldness upon every head; and I will make it as the mourning for an only son, and the end thereof as a bitter day.

10 I will turn your festivals into funerals 

and all your songs into funeral songs. 

I will put sackcloth around everyone’s waist 

and shave everyone’s head. 

I will make that day seem like a funeral for an only child, 

and its end will be bitter. 

9 And in that day—

this is the declaration of the Lord God—

I will make the sun go down at noon;

I will darken the land in the daytime.

10 I will turn your feasts into mourning

and all your songs into lamentation;

I will cause everyone to wear sackcloth

and every head to be shaved.

I will make that grief

like mourning for an only son

and its outcome like a bitter day.

9 On that day, says the Lord God,

I will make the sun go down at noon,

and darken the earth in broad daylight.

10 I will turn your feasts into mourning,

and all your songs into lamentation;

I will bring sackcloth on all loins,

and baldness on every head;

I will make it like the mourning for an only son,

and the end of it like a bitter day.

9 And then in that day,” declares my Lord Yahweh, “I will make the sun go down at noon and I will darken the land on a day of light. 10 And I will turn your feasts into mourning and all of your songs into lament, and I will put sackcloth on all loins and baldness on every head. And I will make it like the mourning for an only child, and its end like a bitter day.

9 The Lord and King announces,

“At that time I will make the sun go down at noon.

The earth will become dark in the middle of the day.

10 I will turn your holy feasts into times for sobbing.

I will turn all of your songs into crying.

You will have to wear black clothes.

You will shave your heads.

I will make you sob as if your only son had died.

The end of that time will be like a bitter day.”
