1 Corinthians 11:19–21 — The New International Version (NIV)

19 No doubt there have to be differences among you to show which of you have God’s approval. 20 So then, when you come together, it is not the Lord’s Supper you eat, 21 for when you are eating, some of you go ahead with your own private suppers. As a result, one person remains hungry and another gets drunk.

1 Corinthians 11:19–21 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

19 For there must be also heresies among you, that they which are approved may be made manifest among you. 20 When ye come together therefore into one place, this is not to eat the Lord’s supper. 21 For in eating every one taketh before other his own supper: and one is hungry, and another is drunken.

1 Corinthians 11:19–21 — New Living Translation (NLT)

19 But, of course, there must be divisions among you so that you who have God’s approval will be recognized!

20 When you meet together, you are not really interested in the Lord’s Supper. 21 For some of you hurry to eat your own meal without sharing with others. As a result, some go hungry while others get drunk.

1 Corinthians 11:19–21 — The New King James Version (NKJV)

19 For there must also be factions among you, that those who are approved may be recognized among you. 20 Therefore when you come together in one place, it is not to eat the Lord’s Supper. 21 For in eating, each one takes his own supper ahead of others; and one is hungry and another is drunk.

1 Corinthians 11:19–21 — New Century Version (NCV)

19 (It is necessary to have differences among you so that it may be clear which of you really have God’s approval.) 20 When you come together, you are not really eating the Lord’s Supper. 21 This is because when you eat, each person eats without waiting for the others. Some people do not get enough to eat, while others have too much to drink.

1 Corinthians 11:19–21 — American Standard Version (ASV)

19 For there must be also factions among you, that they that are approved may be made manifest among you. 20 When therefore ye assemble yourselves together, it is not possible to eat the Lord’s supper: 21 for in your eating each one taketh before other his own supper; and one is hungry, and another is drunken.

1 Corinthians 11:19–21 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

19 For there must also be sects among you, that the approved may become manifest among you. 20 When ye come therefore together into one place, it is not to eat the Lord’s supper. 21 For each one in eating takes his own supper before others, and one is hungry and another drinks to excess.

1 Corinthians 11:19–21 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

19 Factions have to exist in order to make it clear who the genuine believers among you are.

20 When you gather in the same place, you can’t possibly be eating the Lord’s Supper. 21 Each of you eats his own supper ⸤without waiting for each other⸥. So one person goes hungry and another gets drunk.

1 Corinthians 11:19–21 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

19 There must, indeed, be factions among you, so that those who are approved may be recognized among you. 20 Therefore, when you come together, it is not really to eat the Lord’s Supper. 21 For at the meal, each one eats his own supper ahead of others. So one person is hungry while another gets drunk!

1 Corinthians 11:19–21 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

19 Indeed, there have to be factions among you, for only so will it become clear who among you are genuine. 20 When you come together, it is not really to eat the Lord’s supper. 21 For when the time comes to eat, each of you goes ahead with your own supper, and one goes hungry and another becomes drunk.

1 Corinthians 11:19–21 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)

19 For indeed it is necessary that there be factions among you, in order that those who are approved may become evident among you. 20 Therefore, when you come together in the same place, it is not to eat the Lord’s supper. 21 For when you eat it, each one of you goes ahead to take his own supper, and one is hungry and another is drunk.

1 Corinthians 11:19–21 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)

19 No doubt you need to take sides in order to show which of you God agrees with!

20 When you come together, it is not the Lord’s Supper you eat. 21 As you eat, each of you goes ahead without waiting for anyone else. One remains hungry and another gets drunk.

1 Corinthians 11:19–21 — New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update (NASB95)

19 For there must also be factions among you, so that those who are approved may become evident among you.

20 Therefore when you meet together, it is not to eat the Lord’s Supper,

21 for in your eating each one takes his own supper first; and one is hungry and another is drunk.
