1 Chronicles 2:3–8

3 The sons of Judah:

Er, Onan and Shelah. These three were born to him by a Canaanite woman, the daughter of Shua. Er, Judah’s firstborn, was wicked in the Lord’s sight; so the Lord put him to death. 4 Judah’s daughter-in-law Tamar bore Perez and Zerah to Judah. He had five sons in all.

5 The sons of Perez:

Hezron and Hamul.

6 The sons of Zerah:

Zimri, Ethan, Heman, Kalkol and Darda—five in all.

7 The son of Karmi:

Achar, who brought trouble on Israel by violating the ban on taking devoted things.

8 The son of Ethan:

Azariah.

3 The sons of Judah; Er, and Onan, and Shelah: which three were born unto him of the daughter of Shua the Canaanitess. And Er, the firstborn of Judah, was evil in the sight of the Lord; and he slew him. 4 And Tamar his daughter in law bare him Pharez and Zerah. All the sons of Judah were five. 5 The sons of Pharez; Hezron, and Hamul.

6 And the sons of Zerah; Zimri, and Ethan, and Heman, and Calcol, and Dara: five of them in all. 7 And the sons of Carmi; Achar, the troubler of Israel, who transgressed in the thing accursed. 8 And the sons of Ethan; Azariah.

3 Judah had three sons from Bathshua, a Canaanite woman. Their names were Er, Onan, and Shelah. But the Lord saw that the oldest son, Er, was a wicked man, so he killed him. 4 Later Judah had twin sons from Tamar, his widowed daughter-in-law. Their names were Perez and Zerah. So Judah had five sons in all.

5 The sons of Perez were Hezron and Hamul.

6 The sons of Zerah were Zimri, Ethan, Heman, Calcol, and Darda—five in all.

7 The son of Carmi (a descendant of Zimri) was Achan, who brought disaster on Israel by taking plunder that had been set apart for the Lord.

8 The son of Ethan was Azariah.

8 The son of Ethan was Azariah.

3 Judah’s sons were Er, Onan, and Shelah. A Canaanite woman, the daughter of Shua, was their mother. Judah’s first son, Er, did what the Lord said was wicked, so the Lord put him to death. 4 Judah’s daughter-in-law Tamar gave birth to Perez and Zerah. Judah was the father, so Judah had five sons.

5 Perez’s sons were Hezron and Hamul.

6 Zerah had five sons: Zimri, Ethan, Heman, Calcol, and Darda.

7 Carmi’s son was Achan, who caused trouble for Israel because he took things that had been given to the Lord to be destroyed.

8 Ethan’s son was Azariah.

All the sons of Judah were five. 5 The sons of Pherez: Hezron and Hamul. 6 And the sons of Zerah: Zimri, and Ethan, and Heman, and Calcol, and Dara: five of them in all. 7 And the sons of Carmi: Achar, the troubler of Israel, who transgressed in the accursed thing. 8 And the sons of Ethan: Azariah.

3 Judah’s sons were Er, Onan, and Shelah. These three were born to him by Bathshua, a Canaanite woman. The Lord considered Er, Judah’s firstborn, evil, so the Lord killed Er. 4 Tamar, Judah’s daughter-in-law, gave birth to Judah’s sons Perez and Zerah. Judah had five sons in all. 

5 Perez’s sons were Hezron and Hamul. 6 Zerah’s sons were Zimri, Ethan, Heman, Calcol, and Dara—five in all. 7 Carmi’s son was Achar, who caused trouble for Israel by taking goods that were claimed by God. 8 Ethan’s son was Azariah.

7 Carmi’s son: Achar, who brought trouble on Israel when he was unfaithful by taking the things set apart for destruction.

8 Ethan’s son: Azariah.

3 The sons of Judah: Er, Onan, and Shelah; these three the Canaanite woman Bath-shua bore to him. Now Er, Judah’s firstborn, was wicked in the sight of the Lord, and he put him to death. 4 His daughter-in-law Tamar also bore him Perez and Zerah. Judah had five sons in all.

5 The sons of Perez: Hezron and Hamul. 6 The sons of Zerah: Zimri, Ethan, Heman, Calcol, and Darda, five in all. 7 The son of Carmi: Achar, the troubler of Israel, who transgressed in the matter of the devoted thing; 8 and Ethan’s son was Azariah.

3 The sons of Judah: Er, Onan and Shelah; these three were born to him from Bathshua the Canaanite. Now Er, Judah’s firstborn, was evil in the sight of Yahweh, and he put him to death. 4 And Tamar his daughter-in-law bore Perez and Zerah to him. The sons of Judah were five in all.

5 The sons of Perez: Hezron and Hamul. 6 The sons of Zerah: Zimri, Ethan, Heman, Calcol, and Dara, five in all. 7 The son of Carmi: Achar, the troubler of Israel, who acted unfaithfully in the matter of the devoted thing. 8 And the son of Ethan was Azariah.

3 The sons of Judah were

Er, Onan and Shelah. A woman from Canaan had those three sons by him. She was the daughter of Shua. Er was Judah’s oldest son. He was evil in the Lord’s eyes. So the Lord put him to death. 4 Tamar was Judah’s daughter-in-law. She had Perez and Zerah by him. The total number of Judah’s sons was five.

5 The sons of Perez were

Hezron and Hamul.

6 The sons of Zerah were

Zimri, Ethan, Heman, Calcol and Darda. The total number of Zerah’s sons was five.

7 The son of Carmi was Achar.

He brought trouble on Israel. He took some of the things that had been set apart to the Lord in a special way to be destroyed. When he did that, he disobeyed the Lord’s command.

8 The son of Ethan was

Azariah.

8 The son of Ethan was Azariah.
