18 Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.

1 John 3:18–20 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

18 My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth. 19 And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him. 20 For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things.

1 John 3:18–20 — New Living Translation (NLT)

18 Dear children, let’s not merely say that we love each other; let us show the truth by our actions. 19 Our actions will show that we belong to the truth, so we will be confident when we stand before God. 20 Even if we feel guilty, God is greater than our feelings, and he knows everything.

1 John 3:18–20 — American Standard Version (ASV)

18 My little children, let us not love in word, neither with the tongue; but in deed and truth. 19 Hereby shall we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our heart before him: 20 because if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things.

1 John 3:18–20 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

18 Dear children, we must show love through actions that are sincere, not through empty words.

18 Dear children, don’t just talk about love. Put your love into action. Then it will truly be love. 19 That’s how we know that we hold to the truth. And that’s how we put our hearts at rest, knowing that God is watching. 20 Our hearts may judge us. But God is greater than our hearts. He knows everything.
