Sirach 29:10–11

10 Many have refused to lend, not out of wickedness, but they were afraid to be defrauded without cause.

11 But yet towards the poor be thou more hearty, and delay not to shew him mercy.

7 Many refuse to lend, not because of meanness,

but from fear of being defrauded needlessly.

8 Nevertheless, be patient with someone in humble circumstances,

and do not keep him waiting for your alms.
