Revelation 11:1–19

THE TWO WITNESSES

11 Then I was given a measuring reedz like a rod,I with these words: “GoJ and measure the temple of God and the altar, and count those who worship there. But exclude the courtyard outside the temple.aa Don’t measure it, because it is given to the nations,K,ab and they will trample the holy cityac for forty-two months.ad I will grantL my two witnesses authority to prophesy for 1,260 days, dressed in sackcloth.”ae These are the two olive trees and the two lampstands that stand before the LordM of the earth.af If anyone wants to harm them, fire comes from their mouths and consumes their enemies;ag if anyone wants to harm them, he must be killed in this way. They have authority to close up the sky so that it does not rain during the days of their prophecy.a They also have power over the waters to turn them into bloodb and to strike the earth with every plague whenever they want.c

THE WITNESSES MARTYRED

When they finish their testimony, the beastd that comes up out of the abysse will make war on them, conquer them, and kill them. Their dead bodiesA,f will lie in the main streetB of the great city,g which figurativelyC is called Sodomh and Egypt,i where also their Lord was crucified. And some ofD the peoples, tribes, languages, and nationsj will view their bodies for three and a half days and not permit their bodies to be put into a tomb.k 10 Those who live on the earth will gloatl over them and celebrate and send gifts to one another because these two prophets had tormented those who live on the earth.

THE WITNESSES RESURRECTED

11 But after three and a half days, the breathE of lifem from God entered them, and they stood on their feet. Great fear fell on those who saw them. 12 Then they heardF a loud voice from heaven saying to them, “Come up here.” They went up to heaven in a cloud, while their enemies watched them.n 13 At that moment a violent earthquake took place,o a tenth of the city fell, and seven thousand people were killed in the earthquake. The survivors were terrified and gave glory to the God of heaven.

14 The second woep has passed. Take note: The third woe is coming soon!

THE SEVENTH TRUMPET

15 The seventh angel blew his trumpet,q and there were loud voices in heaven saying,

The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom

of our Lord and of his Christ,

and he will reign forever and ever.r

16 The twenty-four elders, who were seated before God on their thrones, fell facedown and worshiped God, 17 saying,

We give you thanks, Lord God, the Almighty,

who is and who was,G,s

because you have taken your great power

and have begun to reign.t

18 The nations were angry,u

but your wrath has come.

The time has come

for the dead to be judged

and to give the reward

to your servants the prophets,v

to the saints, and to those who fear your name,

both small and great,w

and the time has come to destroy

those who destroy the earth.

19 Then the temple of God in heaven was opened, and the ark of his covenantH appeared in his temple. There were flashes of lightning, rumblings and peals of thunder,x an earthquake,I and severe hail.

Revelation 21:1–22:21

THE NEW CREATION

21 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth;af for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away,ag and the sea was no more.ah I also saw the holy city,ai the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God,aj prepared like a bride adorned for her husband.ak

Then I heard a loud voiceal from the throne:E,am Look, God’s dwellingF is with humanity, and he will live with them. They will be his peoples,G,an and God himself will be with them and will be their God.H He will wipe away every tear from their eyes.ao Death will be no more;ap grief, crying, and pain will be no more,aq because the previous thingsI have passed away.ar

Then the one seated on the throne said, “Look, I am making everything new.” He also said, “Write, because these wordsJ are faithful and true.”as Then he said to me, “It is done!at I am the Alpha and the Omega,au the beginning and the end.av I will freely give to the thirstyaw from the spring of the water of life.ax The one who conquersay will inherit these things, and I will be his God, and he will be my son.az But the cowards, faithless,K detestable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liarsba—their share will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur,a which is the second death.”b

THE NEW JERUSALEM

Then one of the seven angels, who had held the seven bowls filled with the seven last plagues,c came and spoke with me: “Come, I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb.” 10 He then carried me away in the SpiritA,d to a great, high mountaine and showed me the holy city, Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, 11 arrayed with God’s glory.f Her radiance was like a precious jewel, like a jasper stone, clear as crystal. 12 The city had a massive high wall, with twelve gates. Twelve angels were at the gates; the names of the twelve tribes of Israel’s sons were inscribed on the gates. 13 There were three gates on the east, three gates on the north, three gates on the south, and three gates on the west.g 14 The city wall had twelve foundations, and the twelve names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb were on the foundations.

15 The one who spoke with me had a golden measuring rodh to measure the city, its gates, and its wall.i 16 The city is laid out in a square; its length and width are the same. He measured the city with the rod at 12,000 stadia.B Its length, width, and height are equal. 17 Then he measured its wall, 144 cubits according to human measurement, which the angel used. 18 The building material of its wall was jasper, and the city was pure gold clear as glass. 19 The foundations of the city wall were adorned with every kind of jewel:j the first foundation is jasper, the second sapphire, the third chalcedony, the fourth emerald, 20 the fifth sardonyx, the sixth carnelian, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth chrysoprase, the eleventh jacinth, the twelfth amethyst. 21 The twelve gates are twelve pearls; each individual gate was made of a single pearl. The main streetC of the city was pure gold, transparent as glass.

22 I did not see a temple in it, because the Lord God the Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. 23 The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, because the glory of God illuminates it, and its lamp is the Lamb.k 24 The nationsD will walk by its light,l and the kings of the earth will bring their glory into it.E,m 25 Its gates will never close by day because it will never be night there.n 26 They will bring the glory and honor of the nations into it.F,o 27 Nothing unclean will ever enter it,p nor anyone who does what is detestable or false, but only those written in the Lamb’s book of life.q

THE SOURCE OF LIFE

22 Then he showed me the riverG of the water of life,r clear as crystal,s flowing from the throne of God and of the Lambt down the middle of the city’s main street. The tree of life was on each side of the river, bearing twelve kinds of fruit, producing its fruit every month.u The leaves of the tree are for healing the nations,v and there will no longer be any curse.w The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city, and his servants will worship him. They will see his face,x and his name will be on their foreheads.y Night will be no more;z people will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, because the Lord God will give them light,aa and they will reign forever and ever.

THE TIME IS NEAR

Then he said to me, “These words are faithfulH and true.ab The Lord, the God of the spirits of the prophets,I has sent his angel to show his servants what must soon take place.”ac

Look, I am coming soon!ad Blessed is the one who keeps the words of the prophecy of this book.”ae

I, John, am the one who heard and saw these things. When I heard and saw them, I fell down to worship at the feet of the angel who had shown them to me. But he said to me, “Don’t do that! I am a fellow servant with you, your brothers the prophets, and those …
