John 5:9–18

⁹And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked: and on the same day ^ewas the sabbath. ^10fThe Jews therefore said unto him that was cured, It is the sabbath day: ^git is not lawful for thee to carry thy bed. ¹¹He answered them, He that made me whole, the same said unto me, Take up thy bed, and walk. ¹²Then asked they him, What man is that which said unto thee, Take up thy bed, and walk? ¹³And he that was healed wist not who it was: for Jesus had conveyed himself away, a multitude being in that place. ¹⁴Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: ^hsin no more, ⁱlest a worse thing come unto thee. ¹⁵The man departed, and told ^fthe Jews that it was Jesus, which had made him whole.

¹⁶And therefore did ^fthe Jews persecute Jesus, and ⁿsought to slay him, because ^jhe had done these things on the sabbath day. ¹⁷But Jesus ^kanswered them, My Father worketh ^lhitherto, ^mand I work. ¹⁸Therefore ^fthe Jews ⁿsought the more to kill him, because he not only ^jhad broken the sabbath, but ^osaid also that God was ^phis Father, ^qmaking himself equal with God.
