(Clementine): but ἐκπορεύεσθαι of Erasm., Steph., all English versions before the Authorized, is perhaps preferable. xix. 14. τὰ is prefixed to ἐν τῷ οὐρανῷ in Compl., Vulg., all English versions (“which were” not being italicised in the Authorized before 1769): but τὰ is omitted by Erasm., Steph. § III. Passages in which the text of the Authorized Version agrees with that of Stephens (1550) against Beza (1589).
S. Matt. i. 23. καλέσουσι all English. Beza’s καλέσεις must be derived from Codex D (Greek, but its Latin version vocabit), which in 1565 had been in his possession about three years. It has little other support. xx. 15. εἰ ὁ ὀφθαλμός σου Compl., Erasm., Vulg., English versions, but ἢ (for εἰ) Beza. S. Mark xvi. 20 fin. Ἀμήν of Compl., Vulg. (manuscripts), is omitted by Erasm., Vulg. (Clementine), and all English versions except the Authorized. S. Luke vii. 12. αὕτη ἦν χήρα Erasm., Ald., Vulg., all English except Geneva 1557: but αὐτῇ χήρᾳ Compl. S. John iv. 5. Συχὰρ Compl., Erasm., Vulg., Bishops’, but Σιχὰρ other English. ix. 10. σου Compl., Erasm., all English: σοι Vulg. xiv. 11. ἐστιν after ἐν ἐμοί is in Erasm., Vulg., Coverdale only. xviii. 20. πάντες of Erasm., Vulg., Tyndale, Coverdale, Great Bible, Geneva 1557, Bishops’, is the true reading: our Authorized Version derives πάντοτε from Compl., Steph.: πάντοθεν seems a mere conjecture of Beza. Acts ii. 36. καὶ κύριον Compl., Erasm., Vulg., Geneva 1557, Bishops’: καὶ, not rendered by Tyndale, Coverdale, Great Bible, is omitted by Beza. iv. 27. ἐν τῇ πόλει ταύτῃ is added after ἐπʼ ἀληθείας only in Stephens 1546, 1549, Beza’s last three editions, the Vulgate, and Great Bible (in other type and within brackets). xvi. 17. ἡμῖν Compl., Erasm., all English: ὑμῖν Vulg., &c. xxiv. 14. τοῖς προφήταις (without ἐν) Compl., Erasm., Vulg., all English except Coverdale. The word “in” before “the prophets” in modern Bibles is as late as 1762. xxvi. 8. τί ἄπιστον Compl., Erasm., all English, rather than τί; ἄπιστον. 1 Cor. vii. 29. ὁ καιρὸς συνεσταλμένος· τὸ λοιπόν ἐστιν (omitting ὅτι before ὁ καιρὸς) Compl., Erasm., Vulg., Tyndale, Coverdale, Great Bible (the Bishops’ renders ὅτι, “because”): but ὅτι ὁ καιρὸς συνεσταλμένος τὸ λοιπόν ἐστιν· Geneva 1557 after Beza. xi. 22. ὑμᾶς ἐν τούτῳ; οὐκ ἐπαινῶ Compl., Geneva 1557: but ὑμᾶς; ἐν τούτῳ οὐκ ἐπαινῶ Erasm., Beza, Tyndale, Coverdale, Great Bible, Bishops’. 2 Cor. iii. 14. ὅ τι Erasm. 1519, all English: but ὅτι Compl., Erasm. 1516, Beza, Vulg. viii. 24. καὶ εἰς πρόσωπον Erasm., Beza 1565, Coverdale, with the Authorized: καὶ is omitted in Compl., Beza’s last three editions, Vulg., and the other English versions. xi. 1. τῇ ἀφροσύνῃ Compl., Erasm., Ald., all our English: τί τῆς ἀφροσύνης Beza, Vulg. (“some little of my folly” Rhemish). Phil. i. 23. πολλῷ Compl., Erasm., Vulg., all English: Beza, &c. add γάρ. Titus ii. 7. ἀφθαρσίαν of Compl., Bishops’, Authorized, is omitted by Erasm., Ald., Vulg., and the other English versions. Hebr. x. 2. οὐκ ἂν ἐπαύσαντο προσφερόμεναι; Erasm., Vulg., Tyndale, Great Bible, Geneva 1557, Bishops’: ἂν ἐπαύσαντο προσφερόμεναι, Compl., Beza, Coverdale. Total 21.
