Job 34:19–25 — The New International Version (NIV)

19 who shows no partiality to princes

and does not favor the rich over the poor,

for they are all the work of his hands?

20 They die in an instant, in the middle of the night;

the people are shaken and they pass away;

the mighty are removed without human hand.

21 “His eyes are on the ways of mortals;

he sees their every step.

22 There is no deep shadow, no utter darkness,

where evildoers can hide.

23 God has no need to examine people further,

that they should come before him for judgment.

24 Without inquiry he shatters the mighty

and sets up others in their place.

25 Because he takes note of their deeds,

he overthrows them in the night and they are crushed.

Job 34:19–25 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

19 How much less to him that accepteth not the persons of princes,

Nor regardeth the rich more than the poor?

For they all are the work of his hands.

20 In a moment shall they die,

And the people shall be troubled at midnight, and pass away:

And the mighty shall be taken away without hand.

21 For his eyes are upon the ways of man,

And he seeth all his goings.

22 There is no darkness, nor shadow of death,

Where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves.

23 For he will not lay upon man more than right;

That he should enter into judgment with God.

24 He shall break in pieces mighty men without number,

And set others in their stead.

25 Therefore he knoweth their works,

And he overturneth them in the night, so that they are destroyed.

Job 34:19–25 — New Living Translation (NLT)

19 He doesn’t care how great a person may be,

and he pays no more attention to the rich than to the poor.

He made them all.

20 In a moment they die.

In the middle of the night they pass away;

the mighty are removed without human hand.

21 “For God watches how people live;

he sees everything they do.

22 No darkness is thick enough

to hide the wicked from his eyes.

23 We don’t set the time

when we will come before God in judgment.

24 He brings the mighty to ruin without asking anyone,

and he sets up others in their place.

25 He knows what they do,

and in the night he overturns and destroys them.

Job 34:19–25 — The New King James Version (NKJV)

19 Yet He is not partial to princes,

Nor does He regard the rich more than the poor;

For they are all the work of His hands.

20 In a moment they die, in the middle of the night;

The people are shaken and pass away;

The mighty are taken away without a hand.

21 “For His eyes are on the ways of man,

And He sees all his steps.

22 There is no darkness nor shadow of death

Where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves.

23 For He need not further consider a man,

That he should go before God in judgment.

24 He breaks in pieces mighty men without inquiry,

And sets others in their place.

25 Therefore He knows their works;

He overthrows them in the night,

And they are crushed.

Job 34:19–25 — New Century Version (NCV)

19 He is not nicer to princes than other people,

nor kinder to rich people than poor people,

because he made them all with his own hands.

20 They can die in a moment, in the middle of the night.

They are struck down, and then they pass away;

powerful people die without help.

21 “God watches where people go;

he sees every step they take.

22 There is no dark place or deep shadow

where those who do evil can hide from him.

23 He does not set a time

for people to come before him for judging.

24 Without asking questions, God breaks powerful people into pieces

and puts others in their place.

25 Because God knows what people do,

he defeats them in the night, and they are crushed.

Job 34:19–25 — American Standard Version (ASV)

19 That respecteth not the persons of princes,

Nor regardeth the rich more than the poor;

For they all are the work of his hands.

20 In a moment they die, even at midnight;

The people are shaken and pass away,

And the mighty are taken away without hand.

21 For his eyes are upon the ways of a man,

And he seeth all his goings.

22 There is no darkness, nor thick gloom,

Where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves.

23 For he needeth not further to consider a man,

That he should go before God in judgment.

24 He breaketh in pieces mighty men in ways past finding out,

And setteth others in their stead.

25 Therefore he taketh knowledge of their works;

And he overturneth them in the night, so that they are destroyed.

Job 34:19–25 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

19 How then to him that accepteth not the persons of princes, nor regardeth the rich man more than the poor? for they are all the work of his hands. 20 In a moment they die, even at midnight the people are convulsed and pass away; and the strong are taken away without hand. 21 For his eyes are upon the ways of man, and he seeth all his steps. 22 There is no darkness, nor shadow of death, where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves. 23 For he doth not long consider a man, to bring him before •God in judgment. 24 He breaketh in pieces mighty men without inquiry, and setteth others in their stead; 25 Since he knoweth their actions; and he overthroweth them in the night, and they are crushed.

Job 34:19–25 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

19 The one who is righteous and mighty

does not grant special favors to princes

or prefer important people over poor people

because his hands made them all.

20 They die suddenly in the middle of the night.

People have seizures and pass away.

Mighty people are taken away but not by human hands.

21 God’s eyes are on a person’s ways.

He sees all his steps.

22 There’s no darkness or deep shadow

where troublemakers can hide.

23 He doesn’t have to set a time for a person

in order to bring him to divine judgment.

24 He breaks mighty people into pieces without examining them

and puts others in their places.

25 He knows what they do,

so he overthrows them at night, and they’re crushed.

Job 34:19–25 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

19 God is not partial to princes

and does not favor the rich over the poor,

for they are all the work of His hands.

20 They die suddenly in the middle of the night;

people shudder, then pass away.

Even the mighty are removed without effort.

21 For His eyes watch over a man’s ways,

and He observes all his steps.

22 There is no darkness, no deep darkness,

where evildoers can hide themselves.

23 God does not need to examine a person further,

that one should approach Him in court.

24 He shatters the mighty without an investigation

and sets others in their place.

25 Therefore, He recognizes their deeds

and overthrows them by night, and they are crushed.

Job 34:19–25 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

19 who shows no partiality to nobles,

nor regards the rich more than the poor,

for they are all the work of his hands?

20 In a moment they die;

at midnight the people are shaken and pass away,

and the mighty are taken away by no human hand.

21 “For his eyes are upon the ways of mortals,

and he sees all their steps.

22 There is no gloom or deep darkness

where evildoers may hide themselves.

23 For he has not appointed a time for anyone

to go before God in judgment.

24 He shatters the mighty without investigation,

and sets others in their place.

25 Thus, knowing their works,

he overturns them in the night, and they are crushed.

Job 34:19–25 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)

19 who shows no partiality to officials

and who does not take note of the noble more than of the insignificant,

for all of them are the work of his hands?

20 In a moment they die,

and in the middle of the night the people are shaken, and they pass away,

and they take away the mighty effortlessly.

21 “Indeed, his eyes are upon the ways of man,

and he sees all his steps.

22 There is no darkness, and there is no deep shadow

where instigators of mischief might hide themselves.

23 Indeed, he has not yet appointed a time for man

to go to God in the judgment.

24 He shatters the mighty without investigation,

and he sets others in their place.

25 Therefore he knows their works,

and he overturns them in the night

so that they are crushed.

Job 34:19–25 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)

19 He doesn’t favor princes.

He treats rich people and poor people the same.

His hands created all of them.

20 They die suddenly in the middle of the night.

God strikes them down, and they pass away.

Those who are mighty are removed, but not by human hands.

21 “His eyes see how people live.

He watches every step they take.

22 There isn’t a dark place or deep shadow

where those who do what is evil can hide.

23 God doesn’t need to bring charges against men.

He knows they are guilty.

So he doesn’t need to have them appear in his court to be judged.

24 He destroys the mighty without asking them questions in court.

Then he sets others up in their places.

25 He knows what they do.

So he crushes them during the night.
