The section that opens at 10:1 marks the onset of Jesus’ journey south to Jerusalem on his final mission. It is parallel with Luke’s so-called “Travel Section” (in Luke 9:51–18:14 or 19:44), though true to form, Mark’s record is much shorter and with few models of Jesus’ teaching. Mark’s theological plan, however, is just as evident. Once Jesus has received the disciples’ confession, however inadequate it may be, he began to teach them plainly about his sacrifice:
