Now the feast of the Jews, athe Feast of Booths, was near.
“For no one does anything in secret 1when he himself seeks to be known publicly. If You do these things, show Yourself to the world.”
For not even His abrothers were believing in Him.
“Go up to the feast yourselves; I do not go up to this feast because aMy time has not yet fully come.”
But when His abrothers had gone up to the feast, then He Himself also went up, not publicly, but as if, in secret.
There was much grumbling among the crowds concerning Him; asome were saying, “He is a good man”; others were saying, “No, on the contrary, He leads the people astray.”
Yet no one was speaking openly of Him for afear of the Jews.
But when it was now the midst of the feast Jesus went up into the temple, and began to ateach.
So Jesus answered them and said, “aMy teaching is not Mine, but His who sent Me.
“aIf anyone is willing to do His will, he will know of the teaching, whether it is of God or whether I speak from Myself.
“He who speaks from himself aseeks his own glory; but He who is seeking the glory of the One who sent Him, He is true, and there is no unrighteousness in Him.
The crowd answered, “aYou have a demon! Who seeks to kill You?”
“aIf a man receives circumcision on the Sabbath so that the Law of Moses will not be broken, are you angry with Me because I made an entire man well on the Sabbath?
“However, awe know where this man is from; but whenever the Christ may come, no one knows where He is from.”
“aYou will seek Me, and will not find Me; and where I am, you cannot come.”
“What is this statement that He said, ‘aYou will seek Me, and will not find Me; and where I am, you cannot come’?”
Some of the people therefore, when they heard these words, were saying, “This certainly is athe Prophet.”
“Has not the Scripture said that the Christ comes from athe descendants of David, and from Bethlehem, the village where David was?”
So aa division occurred in the crowd because of Him.
aSome of them wanted to seize Him, but no one laid hands on Him.
The aofficers then came to the chief priests and Pharisees, and they said to them, “Why did you not bring Him?”
The Pharisees then answered them, “aYou have not also been led astray, have you?
“aOur Law does not judge a man unless it first hears from him and knows what he is doing, does it?”
They answered him, “aYou are not also from Galilee, are you? Search, and see that no prophet arises out of Galilee.”
[1Everyone went to his home.
About New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update
The New American Standard Bible, long considered a favorite study Bible by serious students of the Scriptures, has been completely revised and updated in this new 1995 translation. Preserving the Lockman Foundation's standard of creating a literal translation of the original Greek, Hebrew, and Aramaic manuscripts, the 1995 NASB provides a literal translation that is very readable. Formalized language and outdated words and phrases have been replaced with their contemporary counterparts. In short, the 1995 NASB is a Bible translation that is very conducive to word-by-word study and is also able to be read (and understood) by the whole family.
