Zophai zōʹfī [Heb. ṣôp̱ay]. A Kohathite Levite; an ancestor of Elkanah and of Samuel (1 Ch. 6:26 [MT 11]). In 1 S. 1:1, 1 Ch. 6:35 (MT 20) he is called Zuph.

Zuph zoo̅f [Heb. ṣûp̱—‘honeycomb’ (?), also K ṣip̱ (1 Ch. 6:35 [MT 20]). An ancestor of Elkanah and Samuel, identified as an Ephraimite in 1 S. 1:1 and as a Kohathite Levite in 1 Ch. 6:35 (MT 20) (also in v 26 [MT 11], where he is called Zophai). Various attempts have been made to explain this discrepancy.
