1. Son of Nahshon and father of Boaz the husband of Ruth (Ruth 4:20f.; 1 Ch. 2:11); thus an ancestor of David and also of Joseph the father of Jesus (Mt. 1:4f.; Lk. 3:32). According to Matthew’s genealogy Salmon married Rahab and became the father of Boaz by her (Mt. 1:5).
