Raphael
Excerpt from the Lexham Bible Dictionary, the most advanced Bible dictionary.
An angel sent to heal Tobit and Sarah in the deuterocanonical book of Tobit (Tobit 12:14). The names given to angels in the Bible often signify their purpose. “Raphael” means “God heals.”Raphael first appears as a human. When reveals himself as an angel, he says that he is “one of the seven angels who stand ready and enter before the glory of the Lord” (Tobit 12:15 NRSV). This is similar to his description the pseudepigraphical book of Enoch: “Raphael, one of the holy angels, who is over the spirits of men” (Enoch 20:4).In the Babylonian Talmud, Raphael is one of the three angels who met Abraham. He often appears in the Kabbalah and in Renaissance art.
