Philistia

Ancient south Levantine region where the Philistines, a foreign population from the Mediterranean known from both historical and biblical sources, settled around 1200 bc (at the beginning of the Iron Age). The region preserved its own cultural identity until its final submission to the Babylonian king Nebuchadnezzar II around 600 bc.
