Moab (מוֹאָב‎, mo'av). The geographical plateau east of the Dead Sea, south of the Arnon River, north of the Zered River, and west of the Arabian Desert. May also refer to the ancient state located within this area from the end of the Late Bronze Age through the Iron Age.

Moabitess mō-ə-bīʹtəs [Heb môʾaḇîyâ]; NEB also MOABITE WOMAN (2 Ch. 24:26). A woman from Moab. The term is applied to Ruth (1:22; 2:2, 21; 4:5, 10) and to Shimrith, whose son was one of the conspirators who murdered King Joash (2 Ch. 24:26). Some of Solomon’s wives also came from Moab (1 K. 11:11).
