The virgin birth or virginal conception of Christ attested in Matt 1:18–25 and Luke 1:26–38. While the accounts vary slightly, both Gospels describe Mary as a virgin who became pregnant “from the Holy Spirit” (Matt 1:18 ESV) while betrothed to Joseph.
