Jeshua (son of Kadmiel)

A leader of the Levites in the postexilic Jewish community in Judah; a descendant of Kadmiel (Neh 12:24). He may be the Levite named Jeshua mentioned as one of those who helped the people understand the Law that Ezra read to the people (Neh 8:7) and who later led the people in prayer and worship as part of the postexilic community’s confession and repentance during the time of Ezra and Nehemiah (Neh 9:4–5). Jeshua, son of Kadmiel, may be the same person as Jeshua, son of Azaniah, a Levite who signed the written agreement to keep the law during the time of Ezra and Nehemiah (Neh 10:9).Another Levite named Jeshua was listed among those who returned to Judah from exile with Zerubbabel (Neh 12:8).
