JEATHERAI (PERSON) [Heb yĕʾātĕray (יְאָתְרַי)]. A Levite of the exilic period, a descendant of Gershom (1 Chr 6:6—Eng 6:21). The origin of the name is unknown, perhaps resulting from a scribal error. Rudolph (Chronikbücher HAT, 54) suggested that it should be read as either Ethni (ʾetnı̂) as in 1

Jeatherai j̄e-athʹə-rī [Heb. yeʾāṯray]; AV JEATERAI. A descendant of Gershom son of Levi (1 Ch. 6:21 [MT 6]), and probably an ancestor of Asaph. In 1 Ch. 6:41 (MT 26) the form Ethni appears to be a scribal variation.
