JABESH (PERSON) [Heb yābēš (יָבֵשׁ)]. The father of Shallum, king of Israel (2 Kgs 15:10, 13–14). Jabesh, however, may be a place name, rather than a personal name. If such is the case, the phrase “son of Jabesh” would refer to Shallum’s place of origin, “a person from Jabesh,” and not patronymic.
