Jaazaniah the Rechabite (יַאֲזַנְיָה‎, ya'azanyah). One of the Rechabites whose faithfulness the prophet Jeremiah tested (Jer 35:1–19). The son of Jeremiah the Rechabite (Jer 35:3).

JAAZANIAH (PERSON) [Heb yaʾăzanyâ (יַאֲזַנְיָה‎), yaʾăzanyāhû (יַאֲזַנְיָהוּ)]. Var. JEZANIAH. 1. One of the troop commanders, who, following the destruction of Jerusalem in 587/6, chose to join Gedaliah, the ruler of Judah, at his administrative center at Mizpah (2 Kgs 25:23; “Jezaniah” in Jer 40:8).

Jaazaniah. 1. Son of Hoshaiah, who was a Maachathite and a leader in the armies of Judah at the beginning of the exile.
