IR (PERSON) [Heb ʿı̂r (עִיר)]. Descendant of Benjamin appearing in an unusual genealogy in 1 Chr 7:6–12. The name means “city” or “town.” This is the only occurrence of this form as a proper name in the MT, and it does not appear in the Apocrypha or the deuterocanonical literature. Some scholars have
