ANANIEL (PERSON) [Gk Ananiēl (Ἀνανιηλ)]. The grandfather of Tobit (Tob 1:1). In Codex Sinaiticus the name Ananiel appears also in 1:8, which reads in part: “as Deborah, the wife of Ananiel my father, commanded.” This verse designates Ananiel as the father, rather than the grandfather, of Tobit. It
