Gospel of the Birth of Mary. Also known as the Gospel of the Nativity of Mary. A noncanonical, ninth-century abbreviated and edited form of the Gospel of Pseudo-Matthew that focuses solely on the life of Mary before Jesus’ birth. The Gospel of the Birth of Mary was never widely authoritative in the early church period, nor could it have been, based on its late date.
