GAZZAM (PERSON) [Heb gazzām (גַּזָּם)]. Var. GAZZAN. Head of a family of NETHINIM (temple servants) who are listed as returnees from Babylonian exile under the leadership of Zerubbabel and others (Ezra 2:48 = Neh 7:51 = 1 Esdr 5:31). According to Noth, the name means “bird of prey” or “wasp” (IPN, 230).
