Exegesis on the Soul. A noncanonical work found in the Nag Hammadi Codices. An interpretive, likely gnostic treatise that claims to explain the soul’s descent to earth from heaven and what is necessary for it to ascend. This work was never widely authoritative during the early church period.

Exegesis on the Soul. A Christian-Gnostic treatise, in the form of a hortatory narrative, preserved in the Nag Hammadi Library (NHC II, 6). The document survives in a 4th-cent. Coptic ms, apparently the translation of an early 3rd-cent. Greek original. The narrative, interspersed with biblical quotations,
