EPHER (PERSON) [Heb ʿeper (עֶפֶר)]. Three eponymous ancestors of tribes or clans in the OT. As a personal name, Epher can be interpreted as a phonetic variant of Heb ʿōper, Ar ǵufr and ǵafr “kid of a gazelle” (or ibex). For the Midianite tribe (see #1), Sabaic ʿfr “agricultural land awaiting rain”
