Edmund, St, of Abingdon
Edmund, St, of Abingdon (also wrongly Edmund Rich) (c. 1180–1240), Abp. of *Canterbury. Born at Abingdon, Oxon, of pious parents, Edmund early obtained a reputation for austerity and sanctity. Before 1222 he became Treasurer of *Salisbury Cathedral, and in 1233 he was elected Abp. of Canterbury.
