Sick; Sickness By far the most important OT word group for sickness is Heb. ḥlh. The verb ḥālâ and cognate nouns ḥ°lî (Dt. 7:15; 28:59, 61; 2 K. 1:2; 8:8f.; etc.), maḥa (Ex. 23:25; 1 K. 8:37; 2 Ch. 6:28; etc.), and taḥalûʾîm (Dt. 29:22) are all general terms for a state of bodily weakness.
