Crescents
Crescents [Heb. śaharōnîm] (Jgs. 8:21, 26; Isa. 3:18); AV ORNAMENTS, “round tires like the moon” (Isa. 3:18). Moon-shaped necklaces, usually worn as pendants, made of silver, gold, or bronze. Specimens have been recovered from various Palestinian sites.

CRESCENTS Translation used in some modern versions for the ornamental jewelry on necklaces in the shape of the crescent moon. It probably had magical connotations. Midianites (Judg. 8:21, 26) and unfaithful Israelites (Isa. 3:18) wore them.

crescents. This term is used to render Hebrew śahărōnîm H8448 (Jdg. 8:21, 26 [NIV, “ornaments”]; Isa. 3:18 [NIV, “crescent necklaces”]). The word refers to ornaments made of gold, silver, or bronze, and shaped in the form of the new moon. They were worn as necklaces or sewn on garments.
