Bani (Ezr 10:29)
Excerpt from the Lexham Bible Dictionary, the most advanced Bible dictionary.
The ancestor of a family of Jews listed among those guilty of marrying foreign women (Ezra 10:16–44). Six descendants of Bani are listed in Ezra 10:29, beginning with Meshullam. Ezra commanded these men to divorce their foreign wives. In the Septuagint of the parallel list in 1 Esdras 9:30, Bani’s name is given in Greek as Μανί (Mani). Another Bani is mentioned in Ezra 10:34 as the ancestor of 12 more Jewish men who had taken foreign wives. It is possible that both references to Bani in Ezra 10 are referring to members of the same extended family. For further discussion, see Bani, Ancestor of a Family of Returned Exiles.
