BACENOR (PERSON) [Gk Bakēnōr (Βακηνωρ)]. A military commander of Dositheus (2 Macc 12:35). According to 2 Macc 12:32–35, Dositheus captured Gorgias during a battle. While attempting to bring Gorgias back alive, a Thacian horseman cut off Dositheus’s arm, allowing Gorgias to escape to Marisa. The name

BACENOR One of Judas Maccabeus’s officers, according to 2 Maccabees 12:35. The name, however, can be shown to be a corrupt form of “Toubiani,” so that the verse should read, “Dositheus, a Toubian, who was on horseback” (see 2 Macc 12:17).
